Romney: 47
Obama: 46

Obama's ratings on the economy have slid since April. Good news for Mr. Romney.

Yeah, I think this is the confirmation that Obama's current line of attack isn't working, because people just don't care about those petty issues.

CBS/NYT is one of the worst pollsters.

CBS/NYT is one of the worst pollsters.

Aren't these the same geniuses who polled the same respondents in 2 polls in a row?

For the record, this is an improvement for Obama. SeeBS's previous poll had him losing by 3.

The narrow Romney lead for a CBS/NYT poll coincides with polling showing Obama slipping in Iowa, New Hampshire and New Mexico.

So Conservatives are touting a New York Times poll with Romney up 1 and Liberals are touting a Fox poll with Obama up 4.  It's a mad mad world.

The Pew poll that has Obama up by 7 is of course ignored by the Romney-loving media.

That Pew polled was rightfully ignored. It polled just 29% Republicans. Can you name the last time Republicans made up just 29% voters in an election?

Obama's favorability is taking a big hit among Registered Voters: He's at 36/48%, while Romney's at 32/36%. So much for Mr. Likeable.

Romney's also seen at being better than Obama on:
economy (49-41%)
budget deficit (50-36%)
taxes (47-42%)
immigration (46-38%)
social issues (48-37%).

Then how do you explain how Obama just got a 52% favorable rating in the new FOX poll, of all places?

CBS/NYT doesn't seem to be the best pollster.  At this point in 2004, Kerry was sustaining small leads and in more than one poll, we see how that turned out. If Romney was so unstoppable, he'd manage better than a 1% lead in one poll.

The Media need a close race to generate ratings.  For conservative media, having Obama in the lead will generate froth and for liberal media, having Romney in the lead will agitate the viewers/readers.

Obama's favorable ratings in this poll are way out of whack with results in other polls. Maybe this poll is the one accurate one and the others are wrong, but it's certainly wrong to compare this poll to all of those others and say his approvals have plummeted.

The economic news of late has not been good for Team Obama, they are starting to get into a position where they really need some good news concerning economics/jobs .  That said, I don't think the country is in love with Romney, either; because despite the fact Obama isn't getting high marks on healthcare or the economy, he seems to be running well in the state polls and Romney isn't showing any clear advantage nationally.

Hasn't every national poll recently been within the MOE?  Looks like they are running neck and neck right now.

Still, we should withhold any serious predictions until we get a Romney VP and the conventions are over.

On a side note.  Too early to really assess the effect the Obama attacks have had on Romney.

This is an interesting month - Obama's taking a hit because of the economy while Romney is taking a hit on the negative attacks. At first it seemed silly for Obama to be going to cut-throat this early, rather than waiting to unleash this until September, but now it makes sense, as I think he'd fall behind 3-4 points to Romney if not for it, which could depress momentum and fundraising.

Obama has closed 2 points since the last CBS/NYT poll?

And Romney gained a point in the Fox poll. The race is clearly stable after the barrage of attacks from Obama. They did not work. And based on Obama's six month low in favorability ratings, it looks like they may be starting to backfire. Maybe Romney might even win if Obama loses his only assent left, his personable likeablity/favorability.  And it lookds like he will do that if he keeps directing his hope and change toward Romney.

Oh my god, like totally. And why not? They are well above the average pollster ranking. No need to discredit a poll just because you don't like it.

Again, this poll is substantially out of whack with the others. It has Obama's net unfavorables as well above Romney's. How many other polls show that?

I'm discrediting the poll because except for the topline and the numbers on 'economy' this is one of the most massive and flagrant outliers we've seen this year so far.
