Title: Adventists and the 1960 Election (New Version)
Post by: Oldiesfreak1854 on August 17, 2012, 10:55:22 AM
I originally posted this in the History thread but got no response.  I'm an Adventist and have been curious for a while about how my fellow Adventists responded/voted in the 1960 election with the election of JFK as the first Catholic president.  Did SDA clergy tell their congregations that he would collaborate with the Pope to mandate Sunday laws in America (based on the interpretation of prophecy in Daniel 7 and Revelation 13 by some in my church)?  Was there a large Adventist backlash against the prospect of having a Catholic president?  If any of you have some good, solid information (please don't just give me a Wikipedia article, etc.) about this, I would be interested in what you might be able to find.  PS: I would also be interested in Adventists reaction to Al Smith's candidacy in 1928 for the same reason.
