I get everyone on the list...except for Rodgers. What she doin' here?

Also is sticking the divisive/unpopular partisans (Scott, Priebus, Paul and to a lesser extent Boehner) in the early timeslots a common thing?

Nowadays, the broadcast networks only cover the last hour of primetime for each night of the conventions, so only the last few names on this list will have any reasonably sized audience.  The person who'll be considered the main featured speaker for Monday night will be Ann Romney, and the wording on their press release reflects that.

I'm guessing that "musical act" is a placeholder so that they can time that one hour of primetime coverage to begin will Haley, and then Huckabee, then Mrs. Fortuno giving a short introduction to Ann Romney or something, with Ann's speech ending just at the end of the network coverage for the night.

But it's so awkward when people are introduced. Look at Romney's RNC 2008 intro.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=AI3lbdJtROg

Democrats always have music playing when we introduce our speakers. Obama had the best intro, then Clinton, then Gore.
Obama- http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q-EfaEjvP4
Clinton- http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q-EfaEjvP4
Gore- http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dYdV1wszqhM

The Democratic Convention is a party, the Republican Convention is an awkward reunion with estranged family members.

It would be kind of odd if Santorum got a slot and Paul didn't, given that Paul was the runner-up.

If your name is placed in consideration, you get a 15 minute speaking slot on why you should be the nominee. Santorum and Paul should be able to make these speeches.

The state roll call, and nomination of Romney is moved to Monday:

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/23/romney-may-be-nominated-early/

Quote
Mr. Romney will be elevated as the party’s standard bearer on Monday – not Wednesday as previously expected – to keep the official business of the roll call delegate vote from competing with broader themes of introducing Mr. Romney. Officials also are keeping an eye on a potential threat from Tropical Storm Isaac and considering concerns about a possible disruption from Ron Paul supporters at the Republican National Convention next week.

It is a change in the script from previous conventions, where the formal nomination usually takes place on the second to last night of the convention. It is a formality, and Mr. Romney will still deliver his acceptance speech on Thursday evening, but the change is significant and an effort to keep the convention focused tightly on Mr. Romney.

Title: RNC: Ann Romney being moved to Tuesday to get Big Three coverage?
Post by: Keystone Phil on August 24, 2012, 11:19:11 AM
Because the Big Three aren't covering the convention on Monday night, word is that it's likely that Ann Romney's speech will be moved to Tuesday. I imagine she'd speak either right before or after Christie. That may move people like Santorum to Monday (which I guess doesn't really matter since he wouldn't be going on between 10-11/not be seen on ABC, NBC or CBS anyway but I wanted him and Christie to speak on the same night).

Even though the hurricane shouldn't have much of an impact on the physical convention itself, the coverage of it during the week is certainly going to distract from it, especially if it slams into the Gulf as a Category 2 or 3.

Now it looks like Ann might be moved to Thursday to introduce Romney, and Rubio would get bumped to Tuesday (thereby bumping someone else to Monday):

Here’s the final prime time line-up, as released this evening by convention organizers:

Monday: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Tuesday: Ann Romney; Mrs. Luce Vela Fortuno, wife of Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the official convention keynote speaker.

Wednesday: New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez; former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (Wis.), who will accept the GOP nomination for vice president.

As usual Romney and the establishment moderate/neocon faction seems to always get to have all the fun. It'll most likely be either a tropical storm or a cat 1. There is a 60% chance that tropical storm force winds (>39 mph) will extend over Tampa. Of course you have to rely on this librul socialist communist government site for that.

On Monday ? On Tuesday ? Later ?

Will they do anything at all tomorrow or just skip everything that was planned for tomorrow ?

Well, Issac might not affect Tampa that much. As for New Orleans, if I was Obama, I'd spend some serious time over the next couple of days making sure that things are much smoother than Katrina there. It could be making landfall the morning of August 29 there. Talk about deja vu.

CNN reports Tampa will dodge Isaac.

Isaac moving away from Florida.

Republicans will try to squeeze 4 days of convention into 3 days.

My advice, Romney, Ryan, their families, and Republicans from the convention should spend Monday cleaning up in areas that may be damaged by Isaac.

The National Journal says a possible Friday extension is possible as well. Regardless, we've now got a storm which could very possibly turn into a strong Category 3 barreling at New Orleans, which is a slightly bigger issue than whether or not such-and-such Republican governor gets to do a speech.

That would save almost a day right there.

Does anybody know what CNN will do tomorrow night now that the day's convention schedule is nixed?  Will they go back to regular programming (Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper, and Piers Morgan) or will they have 5 straight hours of convention prep?  CNN was supposed to air the convention from 7:00-midnight tomorrow night right after the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

Not that I've mentioned it, but I am a meteorologist.  The media is over-hyping Isaac to such a great extent, that actions are being taken that in retrospect, will be quite apparent as overly done.  For instance, did the RNC really need to cancel nearly all of today's actvities.  I'd guess not (though perhaps they seized the opportunity to shorten the four day event to a more tailored for media coverage three day shindig).

They should limit the convention only to the big guns in a one day affair.

Ann Romney, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Jeb Bush, John McCain, Condi Rice, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney.

Officially nominate Romney and Ryan so they meet all the legal requirements for candidacy.

Then if any areas are damaged by a tropical storm or heaven forbid a hurricane,  Romney and Ryan personally head out to the areas hit to view the damage and physically pitch in to assist in the clean up.

It's good to see that while the convention is a 25% shorter, that two great leaders are still going to speak today - Mayor Mick Cornett (R-Oklahoma City) at 3:15 pm CT and Gov. Mary Fallin (Oklahoma) between 7:00-8:00 pm CT.  I know they're not big nationally, but they both, especially Gov. Fallin are rising stars within the party.  Gov. Fallin will be finished with her term as Governor in 2019 (if she wins a second term in 2014) meaning she could be a potential 2020 or 2024 dark horse.

In more relevant news, though, I'm glad Gov. Christie is going tonight so he has less of a chance to overshadow Gov. Romney or even Rep. Ryan.  I'm also interested to hear how Mrs. Romney attempts to humanize her husband.  I'm voting for President Obama in November, but I am very interested in the Republican Convention, not to jeer it or laugh at it, but to have as close to a fair fight as we can.  I want, and I'm sure Obama, wants Romney's best shot.

Democrats did it in 2008. Come to think of it, even the minor parties like the Libertarians did it this time. Very odd tradition, but one I enjoy.

As for the convention, well any chance I was going to support Romney has gone out the window. Let Paul have his moment. Not like anyone watches this part anyway. Might as well have sucked it up, let the Paul people have their "fair shot" at getting their guy nominated.  Rubbing salt in the wound like this strikes me as another blunder on Romney's part.
