The UN: Good or Bad? And why? I personally am neutral when it comes to the UN.

It's definitely good, but severely outdated and underpowered.

It's a good thing. Unfortunately, it's almost completely ineffective. Nobody seems to want to be a part of a team. Many of these nations, they don't wanna be part of a team. People not wanting to work together, they just wanna work for their own self-interests.

A talking shop for dictators and less than admirable regimes. Although the UN's humanitarian efforts are to be respected.

I personally think it's time to entertain John McCain's 'League of Democracies' idea.

Well the fact is that the UN is almost entirely dominated by the US and its allies, and supports the same horrible neoliberal imperialist agenda. 

On the contrary, I don't like the UN for the opposite reason. I'm not sure which to vote for -- I think it should be scaled back, but we shouldn't do away with it entirely.

The UN in an interesting thing. It is completely useless without any authority or the means to enforce its initiatives. Conversely, if the UN were to acquire such authority, we would have an actual, functioning global government - which should be horrifying to virtually everyone on the planet.

I think it should be converted into a humanitarian outfit, as that's the only thing the UN has ever really been good for.

Ineffective at its best, shield for victors' "justice" at its worst.

People who call the United Nations ineffective clearly don't realize what it is that it actually does.

It's not perfect, but the world is better with it than it would be without. (same as the EU in some way)

It is a good, albeit very flawed. As a world federalist I want something more than the UN though.

A lot more people simply don't realize that the UN is more than just the General Assembly.

Depends what you mean. In that I think it's better that it exists? I don't think I ever thought otherwise. (Unless I was trolling a Euro discussion :)) Doesn't mean I like the Euro or support further political union, mind you.

Yes, which is precisely the main positive point about the U.N. - it angers right-wingers such as yourself who have no understanding of how it works or what it does.

As a committed internationalist, I say good. If anything I'd favor it playing a bigger role.

Generally negative with some bright spots.

I don't want to imagine a world without UNICEF or the World Health Organization.  Overwhelmingly good.
