I hope the 49ers are going to be on TV this week; I can't wait to see them lose to Green Bay.

Jets offense was bad in the preseason but their defense should be better and among best in league. So I think you are playing with fire, Grumps.

I suppose I'll play this year, Eagles.

I'm gonna take a chance they're still rusty, patrick......and the Bills don't beat teams they should.....so why the hell not!  ;)  You're smart to pick teh Iggles early.....Vick might not last past week 3.

Yep, I'll take Vick while he is still upright.  By same logic, Broncs may be decent pick earlier on.
Ugh, if this offense could somehow get on track the Jets would have a damn good team.  Good luck with Steelers this year. I was actually looking at a trip to Pittsburgh for week 2 but since it is home opener etc tickets looked too pricey.

I think the Steelers have an excellent chance of losing this week of all of them.....our pass defense seems suspect to me and Payton might carve us up like Thanksgiving turkey.

Harrison might not play and if he does he probably won't be a factor......Ryan Clark can't play in the Denver elevation and that messes Troy up.......could be a long night.

I'm known for being a big Soccer fan in a country that doesn't care for it. On Sunday, I'll be following the season openers from a country I'm visiting to attend Soccer matches; a country that doesn't care about (American) Football. I think I've come full circle. :P

Now to find a place in Naples to watch the Eagles smoke the Browns. :P I think I'll have to settle for watching on my laptop though.

Why do we have to play all the tough teams on the road? It seems like the Niners' greatest rival is the schedule makers.

I am hoping the Cowboys can at least do better than 8-8.  If we make the playoffs, great, but I just want a winning season, preferably one with 10 wins or more.

Since I am in Utah, I will be following the Broncos and 49ers a lot closer since they are the closest teams to me.  I will never stop being a Cowboys fan, just like I will never stop being an Oklahoma Sooners fan or Oklahoma City Thunder fan.  I will just 'follow' the local/regional teams.

From moving around a bit, I've noticed you tend to hate or "come to an understanding" with the local favorite team.  I've done the latter with the Huskers.  I'm not a fan, but I watch games from time to time, I'd rather they win than lose (unless they are playing one of my teams, but that's a short list in college football:Air Force and Illinois) and I know a bit more about the team than I should.  But I'm not a fan.  I'd never wear Husker gear....and I do wear a little sports gear (Steelers hat, Cardinals tshirt).

I'm a 49ers fan because of my dad, who picked it up when he lived in Utah in the late '80s, when it was 49ers country. Of course, the 49ers were big everywhere back then; I haven't spent a lot of time in Utah, so it's quite possible that it's lain dormant during the last decade. As I understand it, people don't much care for the Broncos there, since Colorado and Utah do have a natural rivalry.

It comes with the territory of winning your division. With that said, I think the Giants would rather play on the road. It seems to work out better for them. :P

We've got a good defensive struggle brewing in New Jersey.  3-0 Giants lead and that only thanks to a Tony Romo miscue that nearly resulted in a defensive touchdown if not stopped by a horse-collar penalty.

Both defenses look pretty decent.  This game won't go any higher than 14-17 points for the winner.

I was thrilled when Tony Romo got the first touchdown of the new season and lead 7-3 early in the 3rd quarter!  If our defense can hold, Dallas may have a chance to take one away from New York and go into Seattle 1-0 next Sunday.

Post by: Joe Biden 2020 on September 05, 2012, 10:41:45 PM
Dallas just escaped the hardest place for them to win with a victory!  We not only get to go to Seattle with a 1-0 record, but we have a major leg up in the division already by winning a division game on the road!  It also boosts the Cowboys confidence.  Anybody who had Tony Romo on their fantasy team is probably smiling right now.  Same goes with Ogletree.

Anyone feel for Cutler big time? I mean Thursday night was absolutely ridiculous. Sacked 7 times and it could've been more, Marshall dropping an end zone deep ball put in what Mayock called a perfect spot, and Bennett causing an interception by not coming to the ball. J'Marcus Webb, the human turnstile.

To be fair to the Jets, that was a much more important game for the Steelers than it was for the Jets.  The Steelers had to win that game, the Jets just needed it.  Losing on the road to a good team isn't the end of the world.  Ya better win that game next week in Miami though 'cause your schedule ain't getting any easier after that.

I must say I am very intrigued by the Dallas Cowboys.  Only they could go in to the toughest place for them to play (New York) and not only win, but dominate the game and then turn around the next week going to a rookie quarterback's house on a team that has a lot of questions heading into the season and lay an egg...

Bravo, Dallas... Bravo!!

Where do we all stand on giants/bucs "victory" formation issue?  I say the Bucs were in the right here.  If you're a score or less from winning and there is still time on the clock, eff the team with the lead and go balls out trying to get a turnover.  The leading team doesn't get to decide when the game is over, the clock does.  Eli (who I like) and the rest of the Giants (who I enjoy watching beat the Patsies in the Super Bowl) are being giant pansies about this.

The Victory formation issue is stupid, because there's no way to really enforce any prohibition on running the clock out. If we get rid of the victory formation, then the QB will just take the snap and "trip", or bootleg out and slide once a defender gets within two yards of him. The same thing will happen anyway.

I heard one guy say that the clock should stop if the offense fails to advance the ball, I'm not sure about that.  My issue isn't with the victory formation itself, it's offenses crying about the defense still caring.

Welcome! At this point, I think the Niners should be considered at least even and probably the favorite in every remaining game. Going 16-0 or 15-1 is certainly conceivable, but it's immensely difficult to not drop a few games somewhere.

Guys, the replay officials who made the fyked up call last night are the regular replay officials.  Blame them for the final decision.

How about the ending of that game last night, huh?  Wicked!  I was certain that if the Patriots won Sunday night, Ravens fans were going to burn down Baltimore.  After last nights game, I think the Packers fans are going to drive down to Baltimore and burn it anyways.  hahaha

BRING BACK THE REFS!!!!!

The replacement refs do suck but has anyone noticed a bias toward the home teams on blown calls?  It's seems the visiting teams get the sh**t calls.

Title: Re: 2012-2013 NFL General Discussion Thread.
Post by: MODU on September 25, 2012, 11:36:17 AM

I haven't paid too close of attention about one team being favored over the other, but I do notice how many obvious ones aren't called.  Like in last nights game: about 3 or 4 plays before the TD catch at the end, a Packers defensemen was clearly off-sides, but no flag was thrown.  Even the commentators missed it because the Seahawks rushed the play rather than spiking the ball.

Rules are that you can't review a call of simultaneous possession. They were just making a routine review to see if possession existed, which it did (just not for the side the refs alleged). Green Bay was ****ed over hardcore.

Well certainly, and it makes sense. If the replacement officials are feeling insecure and confused enough, 75,000 screaming fans and a long ride home can convince you of the "right" decision rather quickly. Even if not for fear, who doesn't want to get cheered instead of booed? I'm not saying it makes it right by any means, but it isn't really surprising.

The original refs are just as bad as the replacements. Already 3 horrible blown calls against the Packers a week after the three plus horrible calls last week. Should have just kept the replacement refs for a lot cheaper, the job quality is basically the same, it's just costing a lot more now.

The officials in the Saints/Packers game aren't any better than those in the Packers/Seahawks game...  I wonder if the refs both replacement and regular got together in the preseason to agree on sabotaging the Packers season?  Two or three clear calls have gone in the Saints favor when they should have gone to the Pack.

The Eagles barely escaped with a win, dropping the defending Super Bowl champs to 2-2 with both losses coming against division opponents.  Somehow, the Eagles are 3-1 when their quality of play could easily have put them 0-4.

Yeah, fair enough. But look at how horrible Mornhinweg has done with arguably the most dynamic QB of all time, the current best RB in the league, and a stable of receivers and a tight end that could each easily top 100 yards receiving any given week. And he lays an egg. AGAIN. Add that to the fact that he was unbelievably horrendous in Detroit and it makes for a completely unacceptable performance that makes absolutely no sense on any level. Horrible, week in and week out. That trash has cost us games, playoff spots, playoff games, year after year after year. Either he MUST go during the season or it's just time for Andy to shove off. This is nonsense.

Yep, I live in Cowboys country. I have to give the Cowboys some credit. They always find new, exciting and inventive ways to lose. Crazy thing about the Cowboys is how inconsistent they are. I mean, they were competitive against the Ravens on Sunday. However, I can see them getting crushed by the Panthers next week. You just never know with these guys.

I predicted that they would be 8-8 this year. Methinks that I may have been too kind to them.

Oh I found a Zen like acceptance with the Jets.... I'm used to them toying with me.

I just hope that what I just witnessed means the end of Sanchez as Jets starting QB.  He was directly responsible for 2 fumbles and 1 bad INT to a wide open guy in the end zone.  He shows flashes where looks good but is too uneven and loses the game with turnovers.

Yeah, I mean I get heated really, really easily when it comes to the Eagles, but we've obviously hit a tipping point. Castillo was a huge miss, Mornhinweg...I won't even say anything, Vick's been hung out to dry, Nnamdi was a waste, the D-line is a disaster, the O-line is the 9/11 of the Eagles, general play calling is worse than it's ever been, the players are lazy, the coaches are inept, and all of it is only getting worse. I love Andy Reid like a family member, but it's over.

Their defense is keeping them in this... barely. It could be a lot worse. On the bright side, their offense is getting a lot of rest today from all the turnovers. It'll keep 'em fresh for next week... (heh.)

Edit: 23 to 0. 4 turnovers. This is getting uglier than Al Bundy's mother-in-law.

That's true. At least the 'Boys split the season series. Who knows. Maybe something insane will happen and the Cowboys will somehow come back. I'm not holding my breath, but there's still a ton of game to play.

Its not over, yet.  23-10 in the 3rd quarter.  We're within 2 touchdowns.  Still not likely, but it doesn't look as bad now.

I was just about to say so myself. Cowboys looking much better. 23-17 now. A one possession game. I spoke too soon earlier. Damn my proclamations of doom and gloom!

Believe it or not, the Cowboys are leading 24-23 now. I admit, I'm impressed with them right now. Hopefully they'll keep it up and win this one.

Troy Aikman was just saying the Giants better wake up or it could be a blowout the other way.

That would be sweet. It appears as if the Cowboys just intercepted the football! Nice.

It doesn't get any easier for Dallas.  They have to visit 7-0 Atlanta next week and then to Philadelphia the week after.

I know I'm a Yinzer but do you guys agree the Steelers/Giants game will be a great one to watch, regardless?
