https://www.gis.at/english I have to pay 24.48€ per month here in Salzburg. Salzburg is one of the more expensive states, Vorarlberg is the cheapest with 19.78€ https://www.gis.at/gebuehren/gebuehrentabelle Additionally, I have to pay about 12€ a month for my cable TV and 29€ for my fast cable Internet. Until a year ago, every household with a TV or so had to pay. Now, the law was amended and it says: "Every household that is able to receive a DVB-T signal has to pay the fee". Which means - because 99.7% of the Austrian area is covered with DVB-T towers - not 99% of all households have to pay now, but 99.99% !!! Because 99.99% of Austrians have either A) some sort of TV/Laptop or other TV-receiving thing in their household, or B) are living in an area where they can "potentially receive" a DVB-T signal with a DVB-T USB-Stick ... :P Title: Re: Do you have to pay a TV/Radio Broadcasting Licence Fee ? On the Gestapo line, for years there have been adverts not dissimilar to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NmdUcmLFkw) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNcAzEfKUgE) (hardly contemporary, but only examples I can find on Youtube), but after receiving criticism and creating resentment it seems this year they've decided to change tack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ9wH3-cIac&feature=related).

How that passes as "current affairs" bewilders me! Australia used to have a TV licence, but it was abolished in 1973 because it wasn't cost effective. |
