I think Barrow could take him on. 2014 could end up like this year and 1998 with no party having an advantage, but the incumbent Presidential party makes a few gains.

Democrats would be better off focusing on the Senate race, IMO. There's mumbling that Price of Gingrey may take the plunge against Chambliss in the primary. This would be one of the few seats that could conceivably represent a pickup opportunity for the Democrats. I agree that Barrow could give Deal a run for his money, but Barnes is damaged goods. I don't see Barnes running for another term any time soon.

Almost no chance Barnes runs though, under either circumstance. Barrow might be interested. Perhaps some of the Dems that Roy crushed in 2010 give it another go? Thurbert Baker comes to mind... Georgia is pretty conservative. The party out of the White House tends to do better in midterm elections. And the midterm electorate is older and whiter. However, for the same reasons, John Barrow may decide a risky election for Governor is more worthwhile than a risky reelection bid for Congress. |
