Because he was just on a national ticket and therefore has solid name recognition ? Other GOP candidate besides maybe Christie, Santorum or Huckabee wouldn't make much sense. For good reason the House of Representatives is at best the ante-penultimate stop before the Presidency. As a rule the Senate, a Governorship, or a Cabinet post is in between the House and the White House. I am usually tempted to show a map, but not here. Ryan would lose every one of the twelve purple states. |
