Title: Best Super Bowl Ad
Post by: Dancing with Myself on February 03, 2013, 11:47:44 PM
Well which one would you pick?

I say my favorite was the Dodge Truck Ad about the Farmers. That was touching, it really was.  So was the Clydesdale ad.

Was anyone able to catch this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8Y800s8y9Zg) during the commercials?  Apparently it only played in certain areas.

Which areas? I didn't get it.

Same for me.

Only in America would people watch a sporting event...and not just accept that there are commercials in between...but even make a point of watching them.

I knew people in the pre-internet days who would tape the Super Bowl, and fastforward through the game so they could watch the commercials.

Not really necessary anymore, since you can find all the ads online.

Yep, saw that one.

So everyone I was watching the Super Bowl really disliked the farmer ad because they thought it was crassly emotionally manipulative.  I guess that what happens when you watch the Super Bowl with a bunch of godless city slickers.

I liked the Taco Bell spot with the old folks and Tide's Montana Stain.  Most of the others were just meh.

The same with mine, they are ignorant to farmers.

I liked the Montana one, the jingle part of it made me laugh for a good while.

Don't remember seeing any that were noticeably good.

The Dodge farmer ad, the Budweiser Clydesdale ad, and the Jeep troops one were all good.  The Tide Montana one was good too.  My favorites were the M&Ms one (the love ballad) and the Oreo library one.

This may not be the time and place for this, but I've been reading this stuff all day.

My father is an alcoholic and Budweiser is his choice of drink. So everytime I see an ad for Budweiser I think: "There's the product that destroyed my childhood and may have screwed up my brother so bad he threw himself out a 20th floor window."

So F*** that guy and his horse.

Sorry Thomas :(

Budweiser's ad made me cry.  My favorite was the goat Doritos commercial.  The farmer ad was terrible.

Yeah Thomas, sorry to hear that :( I didn't find it particularly interesting either.

My favourite was the Montana stain one.

Wow, I didn't know this place was filled with such critics.

Gone are the days of watching and enjoying the ads I guess.

I didn't see them all, but only a few are worth even mentioning the next day. Back when I started watching Superbowls, (2006) the commercials were fairly memorable. Gone is the America we grew up in, swept away like Dust in the Wind.

Yes. If only we could go all the way back in time to the halcyon days of 2006.

Of the 174 total minutes in the game, 60 of them are dedicated to commercials.  Only 11 minutes, out of 174 total, were actual gameplay.

So, over a third of a football game is spent watching commercials.  Only 6% of a football game is spent watching football.

Which is a lot like life, I suppose.  You waste about a third of it sleeping, and about 6% really doing anything that makes the whole damn thing worthwhile.

I can honestly not remember. I hardly watched any of that god-awful game, and I totally refuse to watch something just for the commercials. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like watching commercials regardless of how much money was spent airing them. I can tolerate them if I'm enjoying the program, but that's about it.
