Title: Fox News Mocks 102 year old for waiting 3 Hours in Line to Vote.

"What's the big deal? She was happy," MacCallum argued. "She waited on line, she was happy that she voted."

"They held her up as a victim!" Hemmer alleged. "What was she the victim of? Rashes on the bottom of her feet?"

I did not know the elderly were being exploited by the Obama Administration for happily waiting for hours in different types of weather in order to vote. Leave the elderly alone!

Here in Memphis olds and feebles are allowed to skip the line and go straight to the voting machine. Don't know why every place doesn't do this.

Same here as regards the feebles.  The olds get an no excuse needed chance to request an absentee ballot, or do a walk-in absentee.  (SC doesn't have generalized early voting, but if you are eligible to vote absentee, you can do it in person at the voter registration office in your county.)

Would you expect any thing else from these guys?

The worst part is I knew it was going to happen while watching the SotU. We live among some internally ugly individuals.

Florida is so overrun with the old and feeble that I suspect letting them skip the line would mean that nobody else gets to vote at all.

I waited in line for 0 seconds to vote. It helps to not have Republicans running things.

The only place that had really bad lines in South Carolina in the last election was Richland County, which is run by Democrats, so incompetence in running elections really isn't something that is exclusive to one party.

I never figured out why we had so many long lines? What was the cause of this? Shortage of poll workers?

Clearly the solution is to privatize presidential elections.

So, in less than four years, get excited for the 2016 MetLife Financial U Pick The Prez Extravaganza. If you tweet a picture of your completed ballot with the hashtag #ivoted, you could win a trip for two to the inauguration or an iTunes gift card.

... What he was saying was that voting is faster when there's only one party to choose from.

You really are a "special case", aren't you?

Agreed.  Or, I don't know why she just didn't vote absentee.

Some people like to publicly perform their civic duty of voting rather than treat it as something shameful to be done in the privacy of their own home as if they were handling porn rather than a ballot.

And some people have physical problems waiting in line for 3 hours.  Absentee ballots don't have to be done from home.  Go pick it up from the clerk's office and fill it out publicly if you want to be publicly seen voting.

My city has had internet voting for the past 2 municipal elections. I'm sure someone has handled both at the same time by now :D

I never figured out why we had so many long lines? What was the cause of this? Shortage of poll workers?

I wrote it in the other thread already: Some places in the US have a non-working system with too many voters assigned to 1 precinct (or even worse: they are not even assigned, they just come and vote there).

The US badly needs uniform voting standards for every entity (precinct/town/county/state/country), preferably a system which automatically registers people and eligible voters, election notification cards need to be sent to every voter 1 week ahead of the election with the precinct and its address on it and a system in which there is 1 precinct for every 500 or so voters and not 1 precinct for every 50.000 voters, which would lead to smooth election days. Also, you should only be able to vote in this precinct that is shown on the election info card that is sent to you via post 1 week ahead of the election (unless you requested an absentee ballot and bring that absentee ballot with you to another precinct, then you can vote at all other precincts as well). Also, voting should probably be held on a weekend to increase turnout.

Save for weekend voting and the automatic handing out of voter IDs, that is pretty much the system here in South Carolina and has been for years. Rather than 1 precinct per 500 voters, it is supposed to be at minimum 1 voting machine per 250. Precincts are supposed to be split once they are over 1500 to keep the place from becoming congested, with more poll workers at the larger precincts. The problems I mentioned in Richland County were due to an incompetent new administrator who severely underestimated the number of machines needed per precinct.  I think she was hoping to show she could run the process more efficiently and cheaply than her predecessor.  Instead, she no longer is the one in charge of voting in Richland County.
