Title: Why did Jill Stein do so well in Easton, MA?
Post by: historybuff on March 01, 2013, 02:44:55 PM
Jill Stein received 670 votes 5.53%.  Is this a mistake?

Probably. It should probably be 67 votes.

Stein is from Massachusetts, but she lives in Lexington, which is far distant from Easton. Easton is a fairly conservative town by Massachusetts standards, no hippie communes or anything else that might suggest a high Green vote. It does contain Stonehill College, but that's a small, conservative Catholic college unlikely to favor a Green.

I think I might have found where the problem is.  It appears in Easton Ward 1 Obama had 15 votes, Romney 487, Johnson 4, Stein 633.  It looks like the numbers were mixed up between the candidates.

This bugs me. In 2016, by comparison, Easton Precinct 1 cast 640 votes for Clinton, 505 votes for Trump, 59 votes for Johnson, and 12 votes for Stein. The official results for 2012 -- 15 votes for  Obama but 633 for Stein -- obviously have to be wrong. The most likely truth of how that precinct voted in 2012 was 633 for Obama, 487 for Romney, 15 for Johnson, and 4 for Stein. I wonder what it takes to get the S.O.S. office to correct that discrepancy?
