The study analyzed the "Missed Connections" Craigslist page to find out where people in each state most often see that special someone, but for some reason or another, are unable to connect in a more personal way.

...

It could be the halo of fluorescent lights, the everyday low prices, or maybe a shared glance in the check-out line. Whatever it is, more people thought they saw their future spouse at a Wal-Mart than anywhere else in 15 states.

The thread ran from West Virginia to Texas in the south and Idaho in the north, based on the magazine's analysis of missed connection posts.

Not all connections happened at Wal-Mart, of course. In New York, the most frequently cited spot was the subway, and in California, the popular gym chain 24 Hour Fitness.

...

The study also found that as the age of the poster increases, the place of the "missed connection" gets a bit more risqué. The average age of a missed connection at an ice cream shop -- 20 years. The average age of a missed connection at a bar -- 30 years. The average age of a missed connection at a strip club or adult bookstore -- 40 years.

"At Home"?  What the hell, Indiana?

Also, I assume this is the same Dorothy Gambrell who draws Cat and Girl (http://catandgirl.com/)?

Walmart?  Wow, that's sad.

The age thing also makes sense.  When you're 20 you're dreaming of finding the perfect partner, someone you can share an ice cream with because let's face it there's nothing cuter than eating ice cream.  When you're 30 you need to be drunk to think someone could possibly be the perfect partner.  By the time you're 40 no one will show an interest in you unless you flash the $$$

An interesting question would be, where do Atlas users almost find love?

Most common place for Tennesseans is Wal-Mart?  Wow, that's embarrassing.

The amount of Walmart on this map is extremely depressing.
