Title: Al Gore-2008
Post by: J.R. Brown on February 20, 2005, 04:45:30 AM
Could Al Gore get the nomination in 2008 and if so could he win in the general election?

There's a small but non-zero chance of him pulling a Nixon.

It would be easier for him to win the general than the nomination.

I'm actually more interested to hear predictions of how he would do in the primaries than the actual election (at this point). I think he could pull it off if he got back into shape.

Depends which Al Gore shows up. If the populist one shows up, he could win Iowa, do well everywhere except the Northeast, where Kerry/Clinton would do well, and the Midwest, which Bayh would win.

I think Gore would win the nomination, but lose the general election.  I just hope he doesn't run!

I agree with everything there except the last part. Run Al Run!

I'm more intereted in hearing about how he does in the general election. Basically no one knows who they're going to vote for in the primary yet.

He said like a week ago that he will definitley NOT be a candidate in 2008.

I dunno, I've discussed this elsewhere and I'm not sure what I think in terms of whether he wants to run. Personally I think 2000 haunts him and he wants badly to run, but we'll see.

Odds:

nomination: 15:1
general: 75:1

Gore would have an outside shot at winning the nomination. He could defeat someone like that aweful Bill Frist or maybe even if old DICK(Cheyney) were to run in 2008. Of course old DICK would have to have some ambition of actually being the president in order for this to occur. If the Al Gore shows up like the one who spoke in the 2004 Democratic Convention, he would do quite well. If the one who campaigned in 2000 shows, it's curtains---It would take a whole lot more than another recount to save him. On a side note, I still can't believe that that campaign actually came as close to winning as it did.

Juswt had a thought: What if Cheyney ran against Gore in 2008??? Ugh!!!

Never has there ever been a more descriptive name for a politician.

Or how about Dick Gephardt?

Hmm. I'll have to think about those two for a while.

Ok, I've thought about it. Neither of those two are as adequately named as Cheney! ;)
