Ran for office, how would their posts here affect the race? Can this hurt? Would anyone even take the time to find a place like this?

I can never run for political office because of my posts here.

By the time we're of age to be serious contenders for anything, obscure or offensive forum posts will be such old news... I'm not concerned.

I still don't see anyway they could connect ChairmanSanchez to me.

Future politicians don't spend their time on political forums anyway...


This too, the only way to tie my account back to me would be through an IP address...which is going to be pretty difficult to do 30-40 years from now

I'm sure if I ran for an office with any real publicity, someone would take the time to read all my posts here to search for dirt. I've tried to avoid giving out personal information, but you all know too much about me for it to actually stay secret that I post here under any kind of scrutiny like that of a campaign.

This would illustrate why I'd hate politics (and in a lot of ways do hate politics despite being fascinated with it): to really be successful in a run for office, I'd have to go around pretending to be something I'm not in a variety of ways to toe a line and get elected. The whole process is channeling the mind to how best to manipulate people, at least on the national level (not to offend any local pols out there... they're job is a bit different when it comes to PR).

Not to mention things I've said and posted elsewhere over the years that are even more easily tied to me. I simply haven't arranged my political life around attaining office; I've arranged it around some obscure ideals about accurately representing my views and honesty and all that.

And that's often the best way to approach political office. Most politicians don't start by arranging life to be politicians. The few that do usually happened to get jobs as political interns then decided that was a career they wanted to pursue.

Oh, if they found my stuff here, I'd be dead.  Especially pre-November, when I was especially dogmagtic. 

It would be great, though. Like if I lived in PA I'd probably get in trouble for defacing lawn signs for Keystone Phil so that they all said 'Jessica Walterstein'

I highly doubt it would fly. 

The consequence of the political opposition savoring the portfolio of my posts, would be to make Todd Akin's race seem like a howling success, a veritable landslide of ballot box love and affection, in comparison. The term "political suicide" as a description of it all would be but a mere euphemism to describe the consequences.

Nah, I'm crazy enough that people won't elect me even if they don't find out about my posting history. ;)

I would fail miserably regardless.

No one found anything when I ran. But small races give you relative anonymity.

I'd only run on an explicitly socialist platform anyway, so I doubt my posts would hurt me.

Worth noting that if some posters I knew tried to run for office I would be tempted to do some leaking... ;)

My posts are too boring and dull to be of any concern.

I usually only ever post in Individual Politics and Atlasia anyway. :P

Yes. It's more my drunk IRC posts that would hurt me, but I have a few drunkposts here.

If I were running for state or local office, it might hurt, but if I were running for President, it would definitely hurt me in the South.

It's obvious that I'd be an horrible politician/candidate, even if they didn't bother discovering the horrible posts I have made here.
