Title: WY-PPP: Hillary has no fu**ing chance
Post by: Tender Branson on July 24, 2013, 12:36:05 PM
Hillary Clinton may be an exceptionally formidable candidate for President in 2016, but she's not going to win the electoral college 538-0.

She trails all of the top Republicans by at least 20 points in Wyoming- she's down 28 to Chris Christie at 56/28, 27 to Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan at 58/31 and 59/32 respectively, 26 to Rand Paul at 58/32, and 24 to Marco Rubio at 56/32.

On the other hand, this is still a 13% improvement for Hillary from Obama 2012. Obama lost Wyoming by 41%, Romney got 69% against Obama's 28%, resulting in Wyoming being the second most pro-Romney state after Utah. Without a Mormon on the GOP ticket, it's actually quite likely that Wyoming will be the best state for Republicans in 2016, as the state has not seen the large latino invasion as Utah to some extent has. Wyoming is also a lot more rural than Utah, another reason why a GOP candidate could potentially do better there.

Bush 58%
Clinton 31%

Christie 56%
Clinton 28%

Paul 58%
Clinton 32%

Rubio 56%
Clinton 32%

Ryan 59%
Clinton 32%

Clinton loses even among non-whites, by double digits, against every GOP candidate tested here.  Then again, non-whites are only 7% of the sample, so the margin of error will be enormous.

Christie vs. Clinton by age:

18-45: Christie +44
46-65: Christie +20
65+: Christie +28

Should same-sex marriage be legal, by age:

18-45:
yes 33%
no 52%

46-65:
yes 36%
no 55%

65+:
yes 26%
no 64%

Somehow I'm less than surprised.

In fairness, 'youngs' here includes 45 year-olds.

Seeing as how there are only two reliably Democratic counties in Wyoming and both counties include voting blocs that voted against her in 2008 (Teton County has the latte liberals and Albany County has the college kiddies), I'm less than surprised. I'll expect to see similar numbers in Idaho and Utah. Aren't the Mormons largely against women in positions of authority? I realize Mormons aren't as prevalent in Wyoming as the other two, but I would love to see a Hillary vs. Palin election in these three states. Imagine what a male third-party candidate would get.
