Title: Will Chris Christie finish his second term?
Post by: NewYorkExpress on January 09, 2014, 01:19:40 pm
Given the bridge scandal is what are the odds that Gov. Christie ultimately resigns or is impeached?

Well, I doubt he'll be impeached, but if he does run for President does he resign? or does he just delegate governing to his staff? and who in his right mind would want Christie's staff in charge of anything?

No.  His term as governor continues well past 20 January 2017. ;)

Depends if anymore information comes to light on the bridge scandal.

Yes, I think he'll serve out a full term.

Globally this.
Honestly, I don't think he's so stupid to do that.

This. He'll try to (unless he becomes President, which should count as not finishing off the second term) stay on as Governor, but if there's tangible evidence tying him to organising and/or knowing of Bridge over Troubled Watergate he should be impeached.

I dout it, but anything is possible. If he was indeed involved in the scandal, he should be ousted from office as early as possible and possibly be criminally charged if need be.

The so called media will probably save his ass.

He'll finish to 2016 yes, but he might run for president, so technically the answer could be no (because his elections are/were 2013 and 2017), not even considering the scandal.

Because of campaign finance law, it might be difficult to for him to run for president while remaining in office as governor, without sacrificing a great deal of fundraising $:

I would love to see him resign for the better of the state, but he won't one for his total self-arrogance and since it would further destroy any chances Christie has of running for the Presidency and will want to try to restore his tarnished record now by then. A Guadagno Governorship would be interesting though if a resignation did take place, but I think an impeachment trial is much more likely. The problem is, he would get impeached in the NJ House, but most likely he would barely avoid being thrown out of office in the NJ Senate.

So yeah, he'll finish it out his term into 2018 even if he runs for President because with this scandal added onto all of his other flaws, the chances he would have of beating someone like Hillary are slim. The GOP primary let alone could be pretty brutal on him to if Rand Paul also runs resulting in a scandal vs. scandal feud between the two.

Yes- unless he becomes president of course.

PPP reports he is still liked by at least Republicans, so unless more incriminating info comes out, then no.

If spying, dead border patrol agents, and dead diplomats don't result in any resignations, why would traffic delays?

None of those things (all of which, may I remind you, started or also occurred under Bush) were done with the specific purpose of spiting a political opponent.

Citizen's United saved his ass, and SCOTUS could likely weaken campaign finance laws even more.

The nice thing about this scandal is that if Christie indeed has knowledge of Bridgegate, we'll know for sure thanks to the paper trail. If anyone sent a text or email about it, ever, even once, he's toast. Everything is pretty much subpoenaed here, too. There's no where to hide.

No one in the Christie administration was smart enough to know not to talk electronically about crimes, not even a man who ran a highly-influential political website. And if they're not that smart, I assure you that Mr. Christie is not that smart either. In 2014, there literally are no secrets.

I believe Christie will FINISH out his term as New Jersey governor, which ends on January 16, 2018; so I think he might run for President in 2016, but the likes of Ted Cruz, Scott Walker, etc., will make it difficult for him to get the GOP nomination IF the scandal keeps growing.
