Title: PPP-National: Rubio trails Clinton by 7%; climate change hurts him more

"This issue could be particularly problematic for Senator Marco Rubio given his recent comments on it. Voters say by a 56/33 margin that they have more faith in the scientists than Rubio when it comes to the issue of climate change, and among independents it’s 57/27. Rubio starts out trailing Hillary Clinton by a 49/42 spread in a hypothetical match up anyway, and when respondents were informed about Rubio’s stance on climate change it pushed Clinton’s lead up to 9 points at 50/41. That’s a wider margin than Barack Obama won either of his elections by.

Marco Rubio is a more likely VP nominee than a Presidential nominee. As a VP nominee he would be picked in an effort to swing the large Cuban-American vote in Florida (which might be a dubious effort anyway).  Like John Edwards in 2004, he would have a difficult time holding onto a Senate seat. But if he can swing Florida he would be well worth the political investment. I'm not saying that Florida would swing the election; it was not going to swing it in 2008 or 2012 because there were swing states like Colorado, Ohio, and Virginia that Barack Obama won by larger margins.

Republicans will be in trouble if they put the denial of global warming and especially its consequences on the agenda. They might as well scrap this denial as soon as possible, lest it figuratively burn them.

Rubio's been the dumbest but almost all Republican candidates have been pretty dumb on it and hopefully will be held accountable for it.

Show the effects of AGW on just almost any imaginable swing state outside the Great Lakes  region (AZ, AR, CO,  FL, GA, LA, IA, MO, NH, NV, NM, NC, PA, VA)... and Republicans get burned. Show Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa-St. Pete being slowly inundated, and Floridians might think Rubio an inexcusable fool.

Paradoxically, some of the most right-wing states in America (Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah) stand to be among the states hardest-hit by global warming. In this list I did not mention Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Missouri. How does "even hotter summers" sound in Phoenix, Tucson, or even Kansas City?

LOL at 70% of Republicans saying they trust Rubio over scientific consensus. The GOP truly is a faith based initiative.

Down by 7 points to Clinton makes this Rubio's strongest GE showing in any national poll since July of last year.

I can almost think of the old "This is your brain on drugs" public-service ads.

"This is Arizona (crack open a pair of eggs eggs on a skillet)... this is Arizona on global warming (turn up the heat on the skillet and fry the eggs). Any questions?"
