Title: Sen. Moore enters SC governor's race

State Senator Tommy Moore is the first of what are expected to be several Democratic challengers to Gov. Sanford for reelection.

Here's an article (http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/local/11475030.htm) from The State.

Our State Senate is elected to four year terms in Presidential election years, so Sen. Moore is not risking his seat to run.  Based on results in the Presidential and US Senate races, I would rate Senate District 25 as a Republican leaning district, but Sen. Moore trounced his 2004 Republican opponent by a more than 2-1 margin.  His main problem will be a lack of name recognition outside of his district, but that’s going to affect any Democratic challenger this year.

In short, at this time I expect that Sanford will be relected, but he will need to work on it, so he will be unable to make any preperations for a possible ’08 Presidential campaign until after November 2006.  Besides, Sanford is young enough that he doesn’t need to pin his hopes on ’08.  2012 or 2016 will be soon enough.
