Title: 2nd FLP Conference
Post by: Filuwaúrdjan on May 18, 2005, 05:12:34 AM
Atlanta, GA

As Party Secretary of the Farmer Labor Party I hereby declare this Conference open

*bangs gavel*

Conference has a lot to deal with this time round. First off, following the retirement of Eric Nyman, we have to elect a new Mideast Regional Chair and another member of the N.E.C.
Then there are the endorsements for the Presidential and Senate elections; no vote will be called on these until there's been a debate on the floor.
There are proposed changes to the Party Platform to be voted on.
And finally there are two votes, which will also be held after a debate, that will determine the future of both the Party and the Nation as well; the first vote will be on a formal alliance with the Freedom party. The second vote will be on whether or not the Party should request to merge with the Freedom party.
Some other stuff will probably crop up too. It always does.

Ah, excellent.  I'm sure the choice of Atlanta, GA shocked all of those that thought the conference would be held in Minnesota or West Virginia. ;)

If we plan on doing endorsements for the Mideast Gubernatorial race we should do that first as the election starts in two days.

The choice of Atlanta is surprising, yes. That of Georgia not at all. What's wrong with Albany or Macon?

Are we going to have a primary or endorsement vote between myself and Texasgurl, or will the Farmer-Labor Party just run two candidates?

I believe we'll be holding an endorsement vote for all Senate races as well as the Presidential race.  You will have my vote for the Mideast Senate endorsement btw.

For most races, I don't like any candidate enough to want to endorse them.
Joe is a nice guy...anyways he'll win. I got no problem with endorsing him.
I prefer Texasgurl to Kodratos (obviously)...but I could also live with a decision to formally endorse neither, or both.

We will now need to hold a re-endorsement on the Presidential race, as candidates have dropped out and others announced.  On this second Farmer Labor convention ballot I will also include a re-endorsement vote on the Northeast Senate race, as migrendel has announced he will oppose Colin Wixted as a member of his newly founded Communist Party.

I'd like to thank the FLP membership for its (so far) unanimous endorsement of my campaign.  It means a lot to me to have the largest party in the Mideast region supporting me, and I'm incredibly grateful for that.  Thank you!

Kodratos   3
Texasgurl  6

It looks like Texasgurl has run a helluva get out-the-vote campaign. People who never rear thier faces on this board have come out to vote for her. Things look bad for me, and it seems certain that I will not win the endorsement of this party.

The Farmer-Labor Party has turned into the UL 2.0, and so I seriously doubt my future here. I can still hope this party will support me, but if it does not I have decided to stay in the race as I think against the wider citizenry of the Mideast I can beat her.

Thanks

I thought the race would be much closer(I'm infuriated that a party which is supposedly neutral on wedge issues is so one sided on them), and I thought the race would be friendly. You have obviously made the latter not so.

I have decided to stay in the race because I want to see you lose

I'm not quite sure what you think is going on, but I suspect that your probably losing this endorsement vote has a little more to do with the fact that:
1. You've been away for a long time and you seem to think you can just step in to a race and run against the frontrunner from your own party.
2. Nobody's entirely sure where you stand on issues - I certainly am not.

And no I didn't think I could just walk away with the endorsement. I just thought it would be much less one sided than it is.

I don't know what to tell you about where I stand. I'm sure most people could tell I'm left wing, but not nearly as left wing as Texasgurl.

Why would you think that I have it out for you?  I don't have it out for anyone.  At the end of the day, regardless of what happens, I don't even have any negative feelings towards Opebo or BRTD.  I don't hold grudges and seeing as we used to get along, I don't know why you would think I held a grudge against you.

You've told me to go f-ck myself because I suggested that homosexuals were drawn to the priesthood. Ever since then you've consistently been rude to me. And no, I have been a member since the FLP was founded. In fact I was the 2nd member(behind only Al).

Well, if I started bashing the Orthodox Church, which I wouldn't, because I love the Orthodox Church, then you would get mad too.  I've told Preston to "go to Hell" over the Gay Marriage issue, and we are still friends and in the same party.

When have I talked to you since then?  To be honest, I had forgotten you even said that.

Every once in a while, I don't want to pull up posts. Maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to come to that conclusion.

And it isn't bashing the Catholic Church to suggest they allow married priests. I wouldn't mind if you questioned my church's doctrine, in fact I would expect you to.

If you had said that, that would have been fine.  That is not what you said.  You said "The priesthood attracts homosexuals".  You assumed that because these men weren't married, they are gay and that guys who are hetrosexual don't want to be priests, which is not the truth at all.  Are Orthodox bishops all gay?

No, and neither are Catholic priests. I think that by not allowing marriage though, that the ocupation is tailor-made for those seeking to escape having to deal with thier sexuality. I don't think not marrying makes someone gay, in fact I applaud those who are sincere for giving thier life to God; it's the bad-apples that ruin it for the real-deals.

Okay, well then you could have just have said that, and I would have respectfully disagreed.  That wasn't what you said though.

Maybe it's your personality. See your above post, you don't exactly know when to quit

I like both of you, so could we all please get along? :)

And I would like to respectfully ask for any and all high preferences from FLP members for the upcoming Presidential election. ;)

Since you guys are doing this over, I would like to say that I am activelt seeking the endorsement of this party.  Please, if there are any questions I can answer, feel free to ask.

OK. Why should we endorse an economic rightist and union basher?

Supersoulty's a economic moderate in most sane peoples' view.

OK, this is getting out of hand.  Let's just bring the vote to an end now.  Here are the official results of the Farmer Labor Party Endorsement:

Mideast Gubernatorial Race
Joe Republic (I-OH)

President
Peter Bell (IL-IN)

Mideast Senate
TexasGurl (FL-WI)

Southeast Senate
Sam Spade (CU-LA)

Mideast Senate
Yaks Hairbrush (I-MN)

Pacific Senate
True Democrat (IL-MT)

Northeast Senate
The Farmer Labor Party does not endorse any of the candidates in this race.

Now let's discuss who should replace Nym90 as Mideast Regional Chair and also his position in the National Executive Committee.  I'd like to nominate Lewis Trondheim for the latter position.

Presuming that these results are official, I thank the FLP for its endorsement.

We also need some candidates for the FLP's two seats on the Progressive Caucus's board whatsit.

I am finally back from my trip and will be catching up on things.

I am going to assume, along with Peter, that these results are final.  If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time.  :)

If this is so, I would sincerely like thank the membership of the Farmer-Labor party for its endorsement.

They seem to be official. So... er... congratulations to the endorsed candidates.
Remember delagates that you're not bound by you're endorsement vote when it comes to the actual election.

in the event there is a revote on whom the Farmer Labor Party will endorse for the presidential election -given Peter Bell has stepped down- here are the candidates:

Siege40 (IL -VT)/Emsworth (IL -NJ)
Supersoulty (F -PA)/WMS (F -NM)
John Dibble (L -GA)/Bono (I -NH)
Keystone Phil (ACA -PA)/MHS2002 (CU -VA)
King (CU -VT)/Bob (CU -OR)

O.K... we vote a re-vote on Presidential nominee please. But it'll stand that we endorsed Pete before he retired.

I recommend the Supersoulty/WMS ticket -it is the only quasi-populist ticket available for the Farmer-Labor Party to endorse, given the line-up.

And given that the Farmer-Labor Party touts itself as being the populist-leaning party of the left, this would seem to me to be a natural alternative.

I vote for King/Bob, with Supersoulty/WMS as a second preference

If no other leftist runs, I ask that members consider my candidacy as a possibility as my absolute centrism ensures my Presidency will be as nonpartisan as possible (everybody wins, I think).

Then again, this Bell thing could be destiny (could the forum go an election without Al for President ???).  ;)

We will hold off our endorsement revote until Harry picks a running-mate.  Then, in the Voting Booth, an official revote will be held -or at least that's what i recommend (Al -what do you think?).

side-note: Atlasia really needs to have deadlines beyond which candidates announcing themselves (or dropping out) should not be included or excluded on the final ballot except as write-ins.  this revote that we are about to have has to be the final be-all and end-all as far as the Farmer-Labor Party is concerned.  and we cannot have finality until we know that all the candidates had announced themselves by some deadline that should be specified as such in the Atlas Constitution, and judging from the chaos i see here on this forum, it looks like we need one.  and it should be rigidly adhered to, to bring some semblance of order to this virtual anarchy.

as the chairman of the Farmer-Labor Party, i think it is only fitting that you set the voting booth up for the Farmer-Labor Party exclusively, like all the other parties have already done -once Harry finally makes up his mind on whom he wants as his running-mate.
