Title: Is John Kasich/Donald Trump a moderate?
Post by: RR1997 on December 20, 2015, 12:38:10 PM
Kasich: Not at all. I'm so annoyed by people who think that he's a moderate. In what ways is Kasich a moderate? I don't understand at all. Most importantly.......

Donald Trump: Yes, he's a moderate.

Neither is a moderate, but Kasich looks moderate compared to what the Republican Party has become.

Of course Donald Trump isn't a moderate, say what you want about the Donald but he is not tepid on anything (well anything that involves himself). Every position he seems to hold is taking Republican base voter sentiments to the cartoonist extreme.

As for drunk uncle karate chopping Kasich...no he is not a moderate, he is just more pragmatic (on immigration, medicaid, the budget (well supposedly anyway).

Kasich is, Trump isn't anything.

Kasich is a McCain maverick on immigration. Too bad the country isnt ready for his brand of conservatism. Voters are tilting leftward, now and Trump is a terrible fit for Latinos. Along with Judd Gregg, they are still very popular.

Have you been tuning out this entire election cycle?

Judd Gregg left office in 2011, and if you mean John Gregg, he is highly unlikely to win.

Yes, I meant Judd Gregg not John Gregg, who has endorsed Jeb.

You do realize the Republican nomination is not the entire election? There is also a Democratic nomination fight going on although I wouldn't blame you for not noticing it. Anyways, they seem to be going pretty left and are doing just fine in the general election polls.

Donald Trump is the classic vision of a moderate - pro-gays, pro-universal healthcare (still not really denying it), pro-infrastructure improvements, and pro-choice. Not to mention he doesn't really align with the neoconservative Republican foreign policy vision, and loves imminent domain. In a sense, he's pro-campaign finance reform because that's the way he's operated his campaign (Especially compared to Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, whose campaigns are choc-full of money from special interests). He takes some hard positions - immigration in particular - but by in large he's a good deal to the left of most if not all of the other Republicans.

John Kasich has rather mild differences from the rest of the field and tries to make that sound as if he is some kind of new Republican. He's a mainline conservative who largely agrees with the parties foreign policy and fiscal policy. He's as pro-life as it gets (probably the most pro-life candidate on the stage), touts his record of "balanced budgets" as something he would plan to do in Washington, thinks "no fly zones" are a good idea, and largely has no problem with corporate money in politics.

the difference is stark and clear.

Spot on!

According to Isideiwth.com, Donald Trump is more conservative than Kasich. Their positions suggest that Trump is not a moderate, while Kasich most certainly is

I take back my previous statement. This is strangely the most accurate depiction.
