Title: Right to Life League Voting Booth
Post by: PBrunsel on June 09, 2005, 03:51:12 PM

The Right to Life League Platform

Preamble:

We the members and delegates of the Right to Life League declare our intentions to create a Culture of Life in the Republican of Atlasia. We oppose the practices of abortion, euthanasia, and the Death Penalty. Our goal is to have these practices officially outlawed in the Republic of Atlasia.

The Right to Life Amendment:

The Right to Life Amendment to the Atlasian Constitution will outlaw the practices of abortion, euthanasia, and the Death Penalty. This amendment will null and void any legislation in contrast with this amendment.

The Death Penalty:

The Death Penalty has it uses, but they are not numerous enough to keep in the Republic. We base our objections on the Illinois Death Row Cases in 2003, where more than 30% of all Death Row in-mates were found to be innocent. We support a complete ban on all the Death Penalty under the previsions in the Right to Life Amendment.

Abortion:

We completely oppose all practices of abortion. We believe that birth begins at conception and doctors have no right to kill a fetus, because it is a living person. We feel that although the numerous Boss Abortion Acts have made fine progress, we call for the complete banning of the practice of abortion in our Republic.

Euthanasia:

Euthanasia is completely opposed in its entirety by the Right to Life League. Any practice that gives ability to “play God” to any doctor, to choose when one will live and one will die, is not acceptable to any who favor a Culture of Life. This practice, as well, will be banned under the Right to Life Amendment.

Schiavo Cases:

As was the case in the very disputed Terry Schiavo Case, it all comes down to whether we wish to “play God” or not. We frown upon the Florida Supreme Court Decision to let Mrs. Schiavo to starve to death, and extremely dislike the idea that she didn’t deserve life because she was “in a constant state of vegetation.” We support legislation that would end any court rules when it comes to feeding tubes for patience. In building a culture of life we need to protect those who some may say would be “happy “to die. We oppose any ideas that any living being would “enjoy” or “deserve” death due to their status.

”Culture of Life:

This common statement used by our members simply means that we favor an Atlasia where we accept the importance of respect for human life and the great gift that our Lord gave to us. We will continue to use this term as a rallying cry for all those who strive to see that all life is seen as sacred.

The Right to Life Amendment:

Aye

The Death Penalty:

Nay, but I propose a revised one:

The Death Penalty has it uses, but they are not numerous enough to keep in the Republic. We base our objections on the Illinois Death Row Cases in 2003, where more than 30% of all Death Row in-mates were found to be innocent. We support a complete ban on all the Death Penalty under the previsions in the Right to Life Amendment as long as abortion is fully banned as well.[/b]

Ah darn, I didn't know this was here when I sent you that PM PBrunsel.  I've got a few revisions to propose:

The Death Penalty:

The Death Penalty is an objectionable practice that does not warrant itself to be used in the Republic. We base our objections on the Illinois Death Row Cases in 2003, where more than 30% of all Death Row in-mates were found to be innocent. We support a complete ban on all the Death Penalty under the previsions in the Right to Life Amendment.  We support a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for crimes that would otherwise recieve a death sentence.

Euthanasia:

Euthanasia is completely opposed in its entirety by the Right to Life League. Any practice that gives ability to “play God” to any doctor, to choose when one will live and one will die, is not acceptable to any who favor a Culture of Life. One must also consider the fact that a person in great suffering is able to change his/her mind, and that physician assisted suicide, once performed, cannot be undone.  This practice, as well, will be banned under the Right to Life Amendment.

Colin Wixted (U-PA) (sort of obvious)  ;)

Actually it kinda isn't. I do believe in legal abortions in the first and second trimesters as well as support for stem cell research.

True, but you don't believe in infanticide.

I typically wouldn't endorse a candidate in that position, except when the alternative is that reprehensible, which seems sort of obvious.  :)  Hence the remark.
