Quote
A massive bomb attack in a busy area of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday is now known to have killed at least 230 people, police say.

Hundreds more were wounded when a lorry packed with explosives detonated near the entrance of a hotel.

It is the deadliest terror attack in Somalia since the Islamist al-Shabab group launched its insurgency in 2007.

It is not clear who staged the bombing, but Mogadishu is a target for al-Shabab militants battling the government.

Annoying that the Paris/Belgium attacks can dominate headlines for months and this story is getting no attention because it's where terrorism is "supposed" to happen.

I've had CNN on all day (I know, ick) and yeah, not a single mention of this.

Outside Mogadishu, Somalia is basically a lawless country. Sometimes the anarchy and chaos spills into Mogadishu. This is a city where there are literally guns for hire standing across the street from the airport. So yes, that is literally the kind of place where terrorism is "supposed to happen".

People are more emotionally impacted by tragedies that occur in culturally similar and safe countries. There's nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't mean we don't care about those who are not as fortunate to live in such safe and prosperous countries.

Obviously if they'd killed 19 Americans, we would have cared.
