Title: (You don't need the game to sign up!)President Forever Atlas Champions...
Post by: TheWildCard on May 03, 2004, 02:36:18 AM
Okay this was an idea I had and I wasn't sure if this belongs in the "What if?" section or here.

Basically what I wanted to do is make a President Forever candidate for everyone at this forum(who partcipates) then I will run everyone against a character I have created named Punching Bag a basic political fool and an aabsolute extreamist for the party he's with, with a 1 in every stat and a VP who only provides +1 experience and both the running mates will be from a state which is a stronghold for their party Hawaii for Dem.s and Alaska for Rep.s) Then based upon the electoral scores of the atlas candidates we will enter a playoff of sorts(top scoring dem v lowest scoring rep, etc and visa versa)

Now if for example we only have 8 candidates representing the 2 parties and the Dems win all the match ups the two dem.s with the lowest score will be knocked out and the two highest scoring Rep.s will advance...

Now because there is no UAC in the game your political party for this game must be either Rep. or Dem.

if you wish to join this game answer the following and read everything carefully

Party:Rep or Dem

First Name:

Last Name:This will be your nickname unless your first name is your nickname then well feel free to make up a last name

Home State

Now choose your attributes(you only get to use 25 points)
Leadership 1-5
Charisma 1-5
Integrity 1-5
Stamina 1-5
Experience 1-5
Debating 1-5
Issue Knowledge 1-5

The VP bonus you get(choose an attribute to increase except for Debating or Stamina) and your VP's home state

Now choose your platform the first answer to all of these is the Left stance followed by the Center-Left stance then the centerist stance, then the center right stance, then the right stance.
//Abortion
Unrestricted access to abortions.
Legal abortions in the first two trimesters for the mother's health.
Legal abortions in the first trimester for the mother's health.
No legal abortions, except to save the mother's life or rape.
No legal abortions.
@

//Affirmative Action
Make all federal agencies follow strict quotas.
Diversity is a compelling reason for affirmative action.
The benefits of diversity can justify affirmative action.
Affirmative action programs only in certain cases.
Abolish all federal affirmative action programs.
@

//Balanced Budget
A deficit is fine - focus on social programs.
Military spending is more important than the deficit.
Balance lowering the deficit with other priorities.
A Balanced Budget amendment to eliminate the deficit.
Eliminate all national debt as quickly as possible.
@

//Business Tax
Significantly increase business taxation.
Increase business taxation.
Businesses are taxed the right amount.
Reduce business taxation.
Significantly reduce business taxation.
@

//Campaign Finance Reform
Elections are rigged for the two parties - we need major reform!
We need to significantly reduce corporate donations.
We need to put more power into smaller donors' hands.
The McCain/Feingold bill is sufficient.
No campaign finance reform is needed.
@

//Ecology
The environment must be our first national priority.
Good environmental policies are good economic policies.
Balance environmental policies with sound economic policies.
Economic policies must come before environmental policies.
The environment is fine, we don't need to worry about it.
@

//Education
No school vouchers, large increase to federal funding.
No school vouchers, increase federal funding.
Lower-income school vouchers, increase federal funding.
School vouchers for lower-income students.
School vouchers for anyone.
@

//Free Trade
We need to erect large tariff barriers to protect all our industries.
Some industries need to be protected.
Open markets should be approached with caution.
Most markets should be open.
All markets should be open!
@

//Gun Control
Ban all guns!
Ban certain guns, and require registration/background checks.
Guns control is a state issue.
We should be very wary of gun control.
Gun ownership is constitutionally protected - no gun control!
@

//Same-Sex Marriage
Same-sex marriage is a constitutional right.
Same-sex marriage, even if not in name.
Retain marriage as it is, but explore civil unions.
Marriage is between a man and a woman.
Homosexuals need to be treated for their condition.
@

//Immigration
Immigration is great, illegal immigrants granted amnesty.
Legal immigration is great.
Legal immigration is fine, but immigration laws must be obeyed.
Reduce legal immigration, crack down on illegal immigration.
Immigration is destroying the country, stop all immigration now!
@

//Military Funding
Drastically cut military funding, establish a Department of Peace.
We should decrease military funding.
Keep military budget the same, look to be more efficient.
Increase the military budget, but find ways to be more efficient.
We need to significantly increase military funding to meet new threats.
@

//Military Intervention
Military intervention is another way of saying 'empire building'.
For humanitarian causes or if we are attacked.
Only if we are attacked.
Only if our national interests are threatened.
We can and should use our military might to further our own interests.
@

//Personal Tax
Increase income tax for everyone.
Increase income tax for the rich.
Reduce income tax for lower- and middle-class tax brackets.
Reduce income tax across the board.
Reduce income tax for the rich.
@

//Public Health Care
We need a completely public health care system.
Universal health care, whether public or private.
Public health care benefits for the poor and elderly, the rest private.
Only a few public health care benefits.
The health care system should be completely private.
@

//Renewable Energy
Renewable energy all the way!
We should focus on renewable energy sources.
Renewable and non-renewable energy must be equally researched.
Coal and oil are our main concerns right now.
We don't need to worry about renewable energy sources.
@

//Social Security
No to any private investment, dramatically increase funding.
No to private investment, increase funding.
Keep social security as it is.
Let workers privately invest some of their social security payments.
Let workers privately invest all social security payments.
@

//Terrorism
We should surrender to the terrorists.
We need to fight the cause of terrorism, economic and social injustice.
Focus on better foreign policy, but use military force if we must.
We should not hesitate to use military force against terrorism.
Terrorism can only be stopped one way: military force.
@

Okay thats it I will also post my answer to the questions after this.

great idea :)

Governor Hugh Bartlett of Iowa, aged 61

L: 4
C: 3
I: 3
S: 4
E: 5
D: 3
IK: 3

My VP's attribute is Charisma, and her name is Paula O'Brien, I'd like them to be from Maryland, I think that is heavy enough Democrat, but Hawaii would be OK. Ideally they'd be from Florida, but I think that is a bit unfair.

My positions (I am uninformed on some of the issues, like affirmative actioan and education, as the australian system is very different, but i've basically domne what i thought was right):

Abortion: Centrist
Affirmative Action: CL
Balanced Budget: In Australia I am center left-increase spending, but more efficiently. But as I am opposed to military spending increases, I'll say centrist.
Business Tax: CL
CFR: Faaaaaar left
Ecology: Centrist
Education: Centrist
Free Trade: Centrist
Gun Control: CL
Same-Sex Marriage: CL
Immigration: Left
Military Funding: CL
Military Intervention: CL. You would have to be insane to argue against me on that issue, I will tear your head off ;)
Personal Tax: CL (Hey, I'm a leftwinger)
PHC: Left. It works here, I could get it to work there if  was president ;)
Renewable energy: CL
Social Security: I'm not sure of the current situation in the US, so Centrist.
Terrorism: Centrist

Just clarifying, I would like my VP to be from Florida, be OK with her being from MD, and put up with her being from Hawaii

No, you can download the demo, but then you need to change the start date of the campaign to a later date to stop the game ending before the actual election

OK, this is just for fun, I tried to make a platform that would sort of be a generic Sweden platform, to see how we seem to be compared to the US...this is sort of my guesses on certain issues, especially those who aren't that big in Sweden. You might say that it has a leftist lean, since the left is in power and always has been always will be. :)

NOTE: This is not my personal stands, my PF candidate remains unchanged for now.

I think it would look something like this:

Abortion:     C

AA:              R

BB:              CR

BT:               CL

CFR:             R

Ecology:       CL

I played as an independent, didn't move out of the state of  Kansas and switched every position I had the day of the election. Whilst these aren't the official result, here is the final score of that game:

()

Bush: 323
Finn: 215
Me: 0

he won California by 3% :(

You won Florida by the same margin, and spent the last day in FL (he was in CA)

With Ca, you would have won 270-268 :)

(without regionalism or dynamism)

Fritz: 287 (65,649,256 votes (52%))
Bush: 251 (59,337,708 votes (47%))

Florida-Bush by 1.7%
Mississippi-Bush by 1.9%

I didn't do quite as well as you:

()

Fritz: 276, 48% popular vote
Bush: 262, 51% popular vote

Historians rating of Fritz: Average

One difference in platform from what was posted earlier: my Fritz has Public Health Care as "Left" rather than "Center-Left".  Terrorism, which I forgot to post, I actually ran as Centrist, not Center-Left.

I ran Fritz with Leadership, Same-Sex Marriage, and Public Health Care in theme.  I ran ads on Leadership and Same-Sex Marriage (using insight gained through research).  Basically I wanted to see if a character running on a platform heavily emphasising same-sex marriage would beat Bush, and he did, electoral-vote-wise anyways.  :D

you won by about 8%, i think.

You were wuinning in FL and CA until the last poll, he was winning in TX until election day :)

I basically sat you in TX for the last three days, and Jeb in NM. payed off, without both of them you'd've lost...

How did I lose BOTH my homestates? MD and Florida? I would sweep the entire south easily.

He played with regionalism which means your campaign has a lot of effect in areas you do it.

Hey JFK and you play me and statesright.. play me as a dem or IND.

Okay I'm starting this back up we need two more Republicans if any new Democrats try to sign up I'm sorry but won't be possible to do unless we get 3 more republicans.

Another change will be that Punching bag will now have all his attributes set to 3 and will now ber reffered to as the "Generic Extream Opponent" mainly because with the new patch punching bag gets creamed by almost everyone in a near electoral sweep.

Oh just 2 other notes first of all the reason this hasn't gotten done is I couldn't figure out how to re-load all the PF Characters I had made for everyone(they didn't appear on the list of candidates once I had ipdated the game) but I now I figured that out!

and the second note is I updated my issue stances and running mate.

*bump* if we don't get anymore republicans I'm going to have to cut the two lowest scoring dem.s out.
