Isn't King Fahd dead?

Also why Chris Patten?

Yup, he's dead since 2005. Salman is the current king of Saudi Arabia, though I'd argue that crownprince Mohammad bin Salman is de facto the most powerful person in the kingdom.

Maybe I'm being too kind, but does he mean Jerome Powell?

Though if he did, being below most of these people doesn't make sense...

Also why is the CEO of Walmart on here? I get it's a big multinational, but it's really quite ridiculous he's there and not Zuck or anyone from Big Oil. The order of the European leaders makes no sense also. Medvedev being on this list is dumb.

A generally confusing list all around.

What role does Chris Patten currently have other than "old Tory guy who people bring in to talk about Hong Kong"

Chancellor of the most prestigious university on earth? Heavily influential in the BBC, though officially retired? An advisor to the Vatican?

Walmart is the biggest corporation on earth. Its revenue is more than three times that of Amazon; it employs four times as many people; so McMillon wields a great deal of power. Yes, I was confused about Saudi Arabia, but Crown Prince Mohammed is merely the face of the new Saudi Arabian campaign - he’s no puppet master.

weird, you seem to have him confused with Lawrence Bacow
"who's Lawrence Bacow?"
exactly.

Harold Macmillan, Roy Jenkins, Viscount Halifax, Sir Edward Gray, Prince Philip, Edgar Adrian, and Arthur Tedder would beg to differ. All these men were the most powerful politicians in their country at any given time, top military leaders, and Nobel Prize winners. They were also all Presidents of Oxford. In the United States, Larry Summers, Elena Kagan, and Condoleezza Rice came from the top class of university administrators.

You do know the role of Chancellor in British universities is a purely ceremonial position? The actual head is the Vice Chancellor.

Why Medvedev? He never held any real power

The BBC and Oxford aren't really enough to put you in the top 20 of most powerful people on the entire planet. I'd argue some CEOs of systemically important banks and central bank governors (Japan?) deserve the spot more than Chris Patten does.

I mean, there's more than a hint of anglocentricism here. Why would you have Mark Carney in and Mario Draghi out? Why would you have Theresa May as the top European when she is basically completely irrelevant on the world stage?

And Chris Patten is literally hysterical - he isn't even one of the top 18 members of the conservative party

Pope Francis more powerful than Angela Merkel or Emmanuel Macron? Ummm...
