Title: Hypothetical 8 District Alabama
Post by: America Needs a 13-6 Progressive SCOTUS on January 03, 2019, 02:32:02 PM
here (https://www.google.com/fusiontables/DataSource?docid=1atH86ZgV2r-t2tUcRQZuIypY1oeFkeZCwA-T8h8G)

There are 2 VRA Districts, both are Safe Democratic (numbered as the 2nd and 5th).

The other 6 are Safe Republican.

The only County split is in Jefferson County, which is inevitable due to its high population, and while I could have placed a District entirely inside its borders, I decided against it in favor of creating a 2nd VRA District.

Note that Roy Moore managed to lose the 8th District by a few thousand votes, and he only won the 1st District by a few hundred votes.

Alabama is going to be losing seats, not gaining

This is based on a hypothetical where the US House has substantially more than just 435 seats.

The map probably doesn't stand up to VRA either, since the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham district is plurality White and the Black Belt district is only 50.9% Black VAP.
