Title: The Middle Eastern Cold War just gets warmer as time passes...

Former U.S. Air Force officer faces spy charges after defecting to Iran (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-iran-spy/former-u-s-air-force-officer-faces-spy-charges-after-defecting-to-iran-idUSKCN1Q2228)

U.S. authorities on Wednesday charged former Air Force intelligence officer Monica Witt with helping Iran launch a cyber-spying operation that targeted her former colleagues after she defected from the United States.

The U.S. Justice Department said Witt, 39, assembled dossiers on eight U.S. military intelligence agents she had worked with for Iranian hackers, who then used Facebook and e-mail to try to install spyware on their computers.

She defected to Iran in 2013 and presumably still lives there, U.S. officials said.

“She decided to turn against the United States and shift her loyalty to Iran,” said Jay Tabb, the FBI’s executive assistant director for national security. “Her primary motivation appears to be ideological.”
Our intelligence services better get their act together, recent events don’t seem to point that there precaustions are working well.

How a Western woman could give up a nice life for Iran is a mystery to me. Not surprising however that this wasn’t an Iranian woman, they dont view the Islamic Regime in a good light.

Meanwhile... Iran suicide bomber kills 27 in attack on border guards' bus (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/feb/13/iran-suicide-bomber-kills-at-least-27-in-attack-on-border-guards-bus)

A suicide bomber targeted a bus carrying personnel affiliated to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Wednesday, killing 27 people and wounding 20 others.

A Sunni extremist group linked to al-Qaida and which operates in Pakistan reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in the south-east of Iran.

The bombing happened on the day that a conference convened by the US in Warsaw was to include discussions on what Washington says is Iran’s malign influence across the wider Middle East. It also came two days after Iran marked the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and four decades of tense relations with the west.

Forgot the hottest part of it, the Warsaw NATO conference.

The US vice-president, Mike Pence, has sharply rebuked Washington’s European allies over their efforts to shield their businesses from US sanctions on Iran, as transatlantic tensions over US foreign policy were laid bare at a conference in Warsaw.

A scheme the EU has set up to facilitate trade with Iran was “an effort to break American sanctions against Iran’s murderous revolutionary regime”, Pence said during a conference on the Middle East organised by the US in the Polish capital.

It seems that she became muslim, maybe that's the reason for betrayal.

It’s possible I suppose. Know that it is guranteed by law to wear a Hijab no matter the religion in Iran. so, unless there is more information to at least estimate, like a date of the pictures taking, this is all under a dark highlighter.

Personally I highly doubt that a former Western security asset could convert to Islam, being in an environment fighting those Islamists, but I don’t know?
