Title: Who would have won CA in a Cruz v Trump 2016 if Cruz had not dropped out?

It is sort of western like Texas, but also urban like New York. Would it have been Cruz or Trump country? I actually have no idea how it would have voted.

Trump given remaining California Republicans are often quite nativist but not extremely Evangelical in composition.

Western Republicans do have a strain of anti big government, anti eminent domain small government ideology that would play to Cruz better. Trump was a Yankee big city authoritarian. The overarching issue would be xenophobia and anti immigration which would lead to a Trump advantage. I would guess CA would vote similarly to AZ.

California isn't Wyoming or Idaho. Even if heavily white rural areas in the far north and interior are disproportionately Republican, the bulk of the voters are to be found in the Southern California suburbs and the Central Valley.
