Title: Justice Clarence Thomas Wants to Overturn Landmark Libel Case
Post by: Frodo on February 19, 2019, 07:38:36 PM
Following Trump's lead, an activist conservative justice wants to overturn the 1964 New York Times vs Sullivan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Times_Co._v._Sullivan) ruling:

Justice Clarence Thomas calls for reconsideration of landmark libel case (https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/19/politics/clarence-thomas-libel-first-amendment-new-york-times-sullivan-bill-cosby/index.html)

Everyone remember reading Anthony Lewis' book, 'Make No Law: The Sullivan Case and the First Amendment (https://www.amazon.com/Make-No-Law-Amendment-Hardcover/dp/B011821QU6/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7D10XH3D7V9KNAQQ5D39)' in their AP US Government class?

if he doesn't retire under Trump - the next time there's a democratic president - we need to RICO him and once he resigns, drop the charges. That'll hopefully show guys like Alito and Gorsuch that we're on to you.

I already knew he was "an activist conservative Justice" before he said this. He's the last remaining member of the Bush v. Gore majority. I also disapprove of Thomas's dissenting opinion in the case of U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton; I knew then, in 1995, that he and the other dissenters were not interested in "the original meaning of the Constitution."
