What were your predictions heading in to election night 2000?

Mine went something like this:

Mine included a bucketful of tctcs, but only one actually predicted wrong - New Hampshire.

Can't remember exactly... more or less Tweed's... but with Gore losing WV and TN...

I don't remember what my specific predictions were.  I do know that I won four bucks off of a couple of girls in my Spanish class who bet me that Gore would win.

I had the actual 2000 results, except Gore winning Florida, New Hampshire, and Tennessee.

You were an optimist even back then.

I thought like Karl Rove said the night before the election, Bush would win in a walk. Polls always had Bush with a slight lead over Gore. I expected a 280 to 258 type win for Bush. I had to wait 35 days for results though.

280-258 is NOT a walk.

I missed in West Virginia and New Mexico.  

So then you had the EV totals right!  Cool!

I'll be honest ... I flipped a coin for New Hampshire and Florida .... my Florida flip is still being disputed.  :)

That was my exact prediction too!

I wasn't as into this stuff then but I remember being certain Gore would not win Tennessee.

We did a predicting thing in class on election day.  I picked every state correct except i had FL going Dem.

This is close to what I thought would have happened. But hey what did I know back then. I wasn't as into this stuff back then.

How does one generate the 2000 map?

I just assumed Gore would win because Bush was such a big jerk.

Mine was basically what acctually happened, except, like most people, I figured Bush would win Wisconsin and Iowa, do better in PA and Florida, but other than that, I no changes.

I predicted a bigger Bush win with PA, OR, NM for Bush, but I thought WV go to Gore

Bush winning every state. Gore was stupid.

I won $20 betting Bush to win TN.

I got 46 states out of 50 right.  I got OR, NM, WI and WV wrong.   Got FL right, though.

The only state I missed in '96 was CO - I thought Perot would do better than he did, siphoning off Dole votes.

In '92 I got 44 out of 50.  I missed GA, MT, NH, NJ, NV, OH.  

I was not into politics until 8:30 PM or so that night.

In 2000, a prediction I made somewhere eles I forget where was mostly correct. I only got Florida and Tennessee wrong.

I predicted every state right except New Mexico....well, I predicted Florida would go for Gore, but I still think I was right there. :P

Mine was that only Florida mattered.  Gore was leading in it by 2 points, and campaigning for a couple of days there with no sleep right before the election. FL was the only state where Gore outspent Bush.  

When they called FL for Bush, I noticed that the most Democratic counties hadn't reported a lot of their precincts, and immediately decided that it was still too close to call. About half an hour later the US media realized the same. I have absolutely no respect for the media.

Yes, that one made me laugh, as did the Civics Teacher and most of the class! :)

A Buchanan Supporter had one where Buchanan won Electoral Votes, wich would only happen if the nation was hypnotised by an evil wizard:

I did not predict the electoral vote, but I thought Gore would just barely win.

Long time lurker, this is my first post. Hello guys :)

I never thought 2000 will be so close. All the polls at the time indicated Bush will win comfortably. It was quite a surprise. And not only for me but for many folks I know.

I thought gore will win TN and WV but lose WI, IA, Minnesota, PA, OR and WA.

I think it was something like this........

Less than 2 points.  I make all presidental predictions 4-6 weeks before the election.  I also do a forced prediction where every state must be scored.

I got everywhere right except for Florida, New Hampshire, and New Mexico.

True, but the recount was just stopped halfway without being replaced by a new one.

The democrats had over a month to steal that election and they couldn't do it. You sound like a democrat.

That was because the Republicans were blocking the recount.

Do you even know what you're talking about. The 3 counties that were being recounted were completely run by democrats.

That was initially. Gore later wanted a statewide recount and the FL Supreme Court granted it to him, before the U.S. Supreme Court stopped it.

The Republicans took a year and disenfranchised thousand of African Americans from the voter rolls, sent out false information about when to vote, and put up road blocks in heavy Democratic districts.
