Looks like a victory for JBE.

My reaction would be that I don't care, because Bel Edwards might as well be a Republican.

Because of the abortion thing? Let’s be honest—that was going to pass with or without his signature. He made the right calculus in throwing a big red meat issue to his conservative constituency in a high profile way, kinda like how Manchin shot the ACA in his 2010 was the right call.

He’s pretty much a standard Dem on non-social issues

Even then, he's been pretty good on LGBT issues so it's not as if he's uniformly socially conservative. Abortion seems to be the only thing he's conservative on, and a lot of Louisiana Democratic politicians are.

Yes, and being a standard Democrat on economic issues makes you GOP-lite if you ask me.

If all republicans would be at least like JBE - party would be much better. It's Louisiana, after all, not Vermont. If some fools fail to understand the difference - that's their problem, not JBE's....

This is Louisiana, not Vermont. Edwards is almost as good as any Democrat in the governor's office can be, and still oodles better than any Republican, not only on economic and education issues, which is really really really important at the state level, but also in terms of lgbtq protections, minority voting rights, and not putting the Christian right in charge of educational curriculum

FYI JBE winning is the best win for national D's if the LA D's can hold atleast 1/3 state legislature. He can force a second VRA district. But alas see Larry Hogans landslide win but failure to have any coattails. Advantage for JBE is that it is an off year election .

The Republican is winning Orleans in the 70s? My guess is 53-46 Republican.

Ah in that case, then a 52-48 narrow Edwards victory.

Damn, missed like 5 parishes. Still a beast prediction, not that far-off the real results, 8 months before the election.
