Title: Did Reagan win Los Angeles(The City) in 1966
Post by: OSR stands with Israel on May 31, 2019, 01:07:41 AM
Given Reagan won Los Angeles County by 15 points in 1966 does that mean he would have had to win Los Angeles it self to win the county by that margin or is it possible for Reagan to have won LA County by 15 points without winning the city it self

By 7-8 points which means he very likely lost LA as well

So the Suburbs of LA had such a large proportion of LA County even then cause Reagan winning LA County by 15 points without winning LA would mean that

The LA suburbs were also very Republican back then in a way that would be unthinkable today.

I read an article about some disaffected SoCal conservative who moved to Las Colinas (DFW suburb) and said he liked it because it felt like living in an LA suburb 50 years ago (i.e. white, conservative).

Soon we will hear about a disaffected Texas conservative.

Not for long as Republicans can’t win the WH without TX

Los Angeles County has always had more than the city. In 1950 the county had 4.1m people but the city had 1.9m. Today the county has 10 million and the city has 4 million. There are dozens and dozens of smaller cities around LA.

Places like Compton and Inglewood were mostly white up until that 1960s. Orange County's growth included a lot of white people who start leaving Los Angeles' suburbs. For those that didn't leave Los Angeles County they either moved to the eastern part of the county or to the San Fernando Valley. For a long time the San Fernando Valley was the power source for Republicans in the City of Los Angeles and that's where most of Reagan's votes came from.
