Here's the list of the most deeply despised & hated former US State Governors. Who do you think is the most despised & why ?

Blago's gotta be up there because of how egregious his corruption was. Probably also Greitens, but his term was so short that it barely counts.

I've heard rumors the FBI wiretapped his Statehouse office in Springfield & his Northwest Chicago home around 2004. Was that true ?

Wonder how much $$$ Illinosians had to pay up whenever he commuted from Chicago to Springfield ?

Despised in their state or nationwide?
Because Palin and Walker are hated by liberals everywhere but I doubt they are THAT unpopular back home.

Didn't see Frank Murkowski and Ernie Fletcher on the list.

Also Matt Blunt had some dismal approval ratings as well.

These were certainly much lower than some of the names on the list. Allen was rather popular when he left office as Governor. I don't recall how low Palin was by 2009, but Murkowski was in the teens and twenties in 2006 if memory serves me.

Blago is a punchline. I don't think he's as despised as all that.

Christie, Snyder, Fallin, and Brownback all cause far stronger feelings of hatred, I think.

Snyder is still loved and adored in many parts of the state. Half of the Republicans say the Flint Water Crisis was the Democrats’ fault, the other half love Snyder because of it, because it hurt the right kind of people.

Yeah he shouldn't be on this list. He lost by basically the same margin as Romney in 2012. Just a tad bit worse. Nothing thats would be a despised governor.

Voted LePage since he's basically Trump in the Flesh. Calling someone a c*cks*cker while in office and then writing STOLEN ELECTION on Gorgeous Jared Golden's certificate of election was just beyond deplorable and very unbecoming for a Governor.

Blagojevich is obviously the worst Democratic Governor. Poor Illinois, red or blue it doesn't matter in the end they always get screwed.

I voted Brownback though. I know several people - a few of whom voted for Trump - who think Blago was railroaded for going against Bank of America. Everyone knows he’s guilty as hell of course, they just thought he was selectively punished.

And then the thread title should be changed since it is despised Governors and not politicians generally. Allen was popular as Governor and a majority liked him for many years after he was Governor. It was his actions as Senator and the shift in the state demographics that changed that.

Even when you consider the fact that his policies alienated a chunk of the electorate, that doesn't put him on the level of "Most deeply despised 'Governor" when you have Governors who went to prison, Governors who had approval ratings in the teens who are not on this list.

Edit: Just for the record I cannot stand George Allen or his confederate fanboyism and this dates back all the way to when he was supposed to be the Conservative champion in the 2008 Primaries, so about 2005.

Illinois is so accustomed to corrupt governors going to jail that I think they just shrug and have an eye-rolling "Oh, you!" attitude about Blago.

I don't think Taft is despised so much as forgotten. I think he just wasn't very memorable at all, which worked against him during the scandals since nobody could think of anything good he'd done. And the scandals were pretty esoteric so I don't know how much staying power they really had.

Taft's not even forgotten, per se. He's straight-up rehabilitated. He's a respected professor at the University of Dayton and has as a good relationship with Senator Sherrod Brown, who frequently invites him to panels as his friend and the only many to have ever beaten him in an election.

Blagojevich. Not even close.

The man was too good to live in the governor’s mansion downstate, so he literally commuted by plane to Springfield from his home in Chicago. I’ve lived in the state since 1990, and I really think downstate residents’ belief that Chicago thinks they’re better than us began with Blagojevich. God knows how much taxpayer money was wasted on his private plane. Note that while his margin increased from 2002 to 2006, he actually lost massive ground downstate. The governor’s mansion fell into disrepair while Blagojevich was in office, so much so that I believe Pat Quinn was unable to live there due to the poor condition it was in by then.

Then throw in how much he screwed the state financially. This pension crisis is almost entirely his fault.

Not to mention his corruption, of course.

LePage left office as (https://morningconsult.com/2019/01/10/americas-most-and-least-popular-governors-q4-2018/) one of the 5 least popular governors with a 54% disapproval rating.
