Title: 2018 Arizona Senate Election: Jeff Flake vs. Kyrsten Sinema
Post by: TML on September 07, 2019, 12:38:49 PM
If Jeff Flake decided to run for re-election in 2018 and won the primary, would he have been able to hold on to his seat in the general election?

The purposes of this thread is to assume that Flake wins the primary. Your scenario is reserved for a separate thread.

Flake wins narrowly without a strong right wing populist indie bid.

Sinema by 4.

Flake wasn't popular and McSally saved face by going full-on Trump, or would have if theattacks of hers weren't 2004 Era.

Better question, could Richard Carmona have won in a rematch.

Flake was obviously unpopular throughout 2018. If the Republicans don't turn out for a primary opponent, they certainly wouldn't turn out for him in a general. Sinema wins by maybe 3-5 with the Dems midterm momentum.

Sinema wins by an even bigger margin. She would get about 53 or 54 percent.

I certainly agree with this. Flake was unpopular with the Republican base, and I'm sure that more of Ducey's voters would have defected to Sinema.

McSally was way more popular than Flake in Arizona.
