Post by: TheElectoralBoobyPrize on September 13, 2019, 07:28:50 PM It was an article of faith that if Romney won, Republicans would win the seats necessary to retake control of the Senate due to the map (Democrats were defending more seats and defending them in hostile territory). However, Republican Senate candidates ended up running even worse campaigns than Romney.
Romney wins the election, and his victory allows Republicans to take North Dakota and Montana while holding on to Indiana. This still leaves the Democrats with a 52-48 majority. What happens? Can Romney get anything done? How do the 2014 elections play out? Title: Re: What if Romney had won, but Democrats had held the Senate? Post by: Kingpoleon on October 03, 2019, 10:47:23 PM These Democrats include: Landrieu, Pryor, Manchin, Baucus, McCaskill, Begich, Hagan, Tim Johnson (South Dakota). Presumably most of these states go to Romney by double digits, so I imagine he gets the Healthy Americans Act, some sort of at least a corporate tax cut, some form of TPP, technology subsidies/federal research, and maybe some kind of immigration compromise. I can’t see a lot of serious, in depth undertaking, but healthcare and immigration are his best shots considering how many Blue Dogs were willing to compromise on that.

Post by: Del Tachi on October 04, 2019, 10:49:32 AM ^This, while Dems are well-positioned to keep Senate seats in WV, NC, IA, LA, CO, MT, and AK while having potential pick-ups in KY and GA. SD and AR are still tight races, with Republicans slightly favored. With Republicans unlikely to gain the Senate in 2014, Cochran retires in MS (making way for a Senator McDaniel, Hosemann or Pickering).
