Landon regained 203 counties that Hoover lost in 1932. He performed better than Hoover throughout much of the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Appalachia, for example. He also won back a few of the traditionally Republican counties in the South that Hoover lost, like Winston County, Alabama and Major County, Oklahoma.

Gillespie County and Kendall County, TX. Two strongly Republican German-American counties swung profoundly to FDR in 32 and then flipped back to Landon in 36.

The only other Democrat besides FDR to win Gillespie County is Lyndon Johnson (who was born there), in 1964.
