I agree about Pederson's 'catching up' - but it finally appears he is around the margin Kerry got in 2004. I don't think he could get any further and wasn't a great candidate.

Pederson can fund himself, but I can't see this one becoming close simply because Kyl is a competent campaigner (as opposed to the guy from VA).

Of the very conservative contingency, he seems like the least offensive, most decent person to me.

Both of them favour one party and have a strong bench in the state. They are both would-be close in elections but usually vote out of loyalty. Arizona voted for Harry Truman in 1948 and then backed Bill Clinton in 1996. Minnesota hasn't voted Republican since Richard Nixon in 1972.
