This news comes just after the announcement that the DSCC is withdrawing campaign ads for Pederson.

Awww...and he was just starting to "catch up" for about the tenth time in this campaign.

Hmmm.  I agree about Pederson's 'catching up' - but it finally appears he is around the margin Kerry got in 2004.  I don't think he could get any further and wasn't a great candidate.

Six more years of Kyl? Echh. Probably my least favourite Senator.

I can't tell - Did you realize I was being sarcastic?

That's odd because he's one of my favorites.  :P

No I did but I was agreeing with you, his campaign never got off the ground as it should have done.

The DSCC probably has better fish to fry.  Pederson can fund himself, but I can't see this one becoming close simply because Kyl is a competent campaigner (as opposed to the guy from VA).

Why?  Don't get me wrong, I'm not voting for him. I am curious why you particularly despise him.

Arizona's not a good state for us. It is, after all, the state of Barry Goldwater. This one was always a stretch, akin to the Republicans in Minnesota.  We'll do better elsewhere.

I would say that the Barry Goldwater of old would probably be as at home in the modern Democratic Party as the Republican.

True.

As for this race, I'm just tired of hearing about it in general. It isn't going anywhere.

would that hard right voting record have anything to do with it??

Kyl may have a hard right voting record, but so do many Senate members.  Of the very conservative contingency, he seems like the least offensive, most decent person to me.

memphis is right when he compares Arizona to Minnesota.  Both of them favour one party and have a strong bench in the state.  They are both would-be close in elections but usually vote out of loyalty.  Arizona voted for Harry Truman in 1948 and then backed Bill Clinton in 1996.  Minnesota hasn't voted Republican since Richard Nixon in 1972.

Also, John McCain is extremely popular in the state and it may have an affect on other republicans.
