Title: End of Operation Banner
Post by: Јas on July 31, 2007, 03:36:29 PM
After 38 years, the British Army shall cease to provide policing support to the Police Service of Northern Ireland as of midnight tonight. The operation which began in 1969 and was supposed to last a matter of weeks represents a significant step in the normalisation process in the North. The end of the operation means that the standing of the Army in the North should now be no different than in Britain itself.

Over 300,000 British troops have served in NI over this time. 763 were killed.
