Title: Gore v. McCain
Post by: © tweed on February 05, 2004, 04:10:34 PM
This is a thread for everyone's prediction map on what would have happened if McCain was the republican nominee in 2000.  Here's mine:

()
McCain 456 to Gore 82

I wouldn't go so far as to suggest a landslide, but you're right, McCain would have won easily. Here's how I think it would have played out:

()

McCain 347 Gore 191

Why would McCain lose NJ but win PA, WI, and MI?

Mike---you used the old EV totals.

You mean the NEW EV totals, right? :)

I agree with Mike that it wouldn't have been as bad as you make it, but I agree with you that PA, MN and WI would definitely have gone for McCain.

McCain, unless he appointed a right-wing horror to the VP slot.

Well I was asking between Gore and McCain. I wasn't sure if he was a Gore fan or not.

Who do you think would have been his VP nominee? I'd say Lamar Alexander or Elizabeth Dole.

Orrin Hatch, I guess.

McCain may have lost... his temper that is.  If he had flashed his temper during the election, it may have had a Dean Effect and resulted in a loss.

About your sig...

Dan Quayle 2008
This should raise some eyebrows

A massacre. A bloodbath.  McCain-(Fred) Thompson, maybe?  I'm still pining for a Bush-McCain ticket this year.  I believe in miracles!

Probably someone either southern or Midwest-- Alexander, Fred Thompson (not Dole, IMO).  Maybe Engler or Ridge. Even worse for Gore--> McCain-Powell!  Man, a McCain nomination would have been freakin' awesome.

The thing is that McCain came off as fiesty and also could get a pass for it because of his Vietnam history.

I couldn't add my prediction map (I don't know why) but here is my prediction. Gore would have won only in MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, MD, DC, IL and HI.

Why do you put Delaware before Maryland? I have understood that it is more conservative than Maryland with its Republican representative of House.

Miami. You are left liberal. How you can favour McCain?

I don't agree with everything he does, but I don't agree with everything Bush does, either.  I'd guess that McCain could win the presidency if it was a vote by Atlas Forum citizens.

I went to McCain's Senate office last September when I was in DC. He has a huge wall covered in photos of his family. I thought that was nice.

Why would McCain have one by a landslide? Bush beat McCain easly. So why would'nt Gore?

Bush v McCain was a Republican primary, McCain v Gore would be a general election.

Title: Re:Gore v. McCain
Post by: Gustaf on February 07, 2004, 08:16:28 AM
Exactly. Primary results are much more influenced by how much money you spend. The influence of that on General elections isn't that great actually.

That, and it's not quite the same electorate... ;)

Post by: Gustaf on February 07, 2004, 08:52:54 AM
Oh.. lucky for Gore that McCain didn't win then. Or else Gore would'nt be the popular vote winner. I guess.

No probably not, since McCain is much more moderate than Bush was.

Title: Re:Gore v. McCain
Post by: © tweed on February 07, 2004, 09:21:13 AM
What do you mean? would gore still have one?
no, McCain was the better candidate as he was more moderate, so Gore would have lost.

Well, I'm sure that you know what a troll is, but I'll tell you anyway.

A troll is a poster at a forum whose lone purpose is either to:

a. stir up strouble
b. be funny
c. pretend to be a member of the other political party, in order to make a satire of the other party.

You fit into category b, and maybe a little bit of c.  You may be a conservative making fun of the Deanies.  But your incessant posting on the subject of Howard Dean leads me (and everybody else) to believe that you are a troll.
