Title: Louisiana Runoff Elections, Dec 17th, 2007
Post by: rbt48 on November 01, 2007, 12:42:40 PM
I just noticed that Bob Odom dropped out of the runoff for Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry.  He led the first round by 10,744 votes, but threw in the towel handing the office to the runner up, state Rep. Mike Strain, R-Covington.

So, the only statewide runoff will be for attorney general.  I wonder if Alexander could win this race.   That event would give Republicans all statewide offices except Lt Gov.  I know earlier posts felt he would be easily defeated, but I have to wonder what Foti has chosen to do about an endorsement.  I don't think that Jindal will stand by silently if the race appears winable.

I think Caldwell probably wins the Attorney General runoff.  The reason is that the combined vote for Democrats in the primary was so much larger than that of the Democrats.  Also, after one party wins big in an election, runoff elections a few weeks after that usually go to another party because there are a good number of voters that are wary of giving too much power to one party.

Why did Foti come in third?

Quote from: Times Picayune
When talking of Foti, 69, the two challengers each lambaste the former Orleans Parish criminal sheriff as an incompetent Barney Fife unworthy to be the state's chief legal officer.

Their most-cited evidence: the way Foti handled the investigation of patient deaths at Memorial Medical Center after Hurricane Katrina.

The shocker was how the heck he won four years ago.

4 years ago Foti ran against Susie Terrell (the Elections Commissioner who consolidated the position in the Sec. of State Office and lost in the 2002 Senate run-off to Mary Landrieu) in a two person race. I don't think Terrell has ran for anything since then.

Terrell is reportedly considering challenging Landrieu again next year, as is the latter's 1996 opponent, Woody Jenkins.
