I mean, I guess economic issues are more important to me, but I'm also not a big fan of theocracy.

Except for the Cleveland and Bryan wings, the Democratic party was essentially a pro-business, quasi-laissez faire party just like the Republicans.

They differed somewhat on which government subsidies needed doing most, but not on the general principle of government action to stimulate the economy.
The principle difference for the Republicans of the two eras is that by the Gilded Age they lost their zeal for social reform. The elite of the party isn't too happy with his more"big government" approach., as many may know.
