You know for some strange reason I always thought you meant Miami of OH.  I think that was the state you had yourself set to the first time I read one of your posts.

Mine is my nickname.  Given by my roommate because he couldn't pronounce my last name.

What? That might infact be correct...I recall thinking that Gus might be more appropriate since it would make more sense to English-speakers...but I have no recollection of that register, and also no idea why I went in with my full name...

Finn MacCool would have been cooler.

I said it somewhere else too, but Lewis Trondheim is a French cartoon artist. It's not his ral name, but I have no idea what his real name is. Anyway, I just like the sound of it, and I once used it as a password somewhere, and now it's become my name for this forum.

That's what you thought was funny? Don't ask me, I don't run the school...but PE is usually the first or last lesson of the day, seldom in the middle of the day.

But you have to get up earlier to go to PE than you usually do?  That doesn't make sense.

Normal lessons start at 8.30, PE starts at 8.15. Normal lessons are in the school, PE in a sports hall way off. Normal lessons don't require you to change, PE does.

Title: Re:What does your username mean?
Post by: Gustaf on February 14, 2004, 07:41:38 AM
No. He has to get changed before 8.15, and he has a longer way to school. So it's maybe half an hour...What's the big deal, Gustaf?
My school started at 7.30, and the last 18 months, after I'd moved to another part of the city, I had to be out of the house at 6.50 to catch my subway.

Lol...it isn't such a big deal nomrally, but at 1 a.m. it is, since I then get about 5 hours of sleep, sa compared to, say, Thursdays when I start at 11.25 a.m. and can thus be up late without it being a problem...it normally takes me about 10 minutes to my train station, 15 minutes to get to the city, and then another 8 minutes with the subway and finally, if I run, about 10 minutes to my school. Since I want to read our 2 morning papers before I leave home, I have to get up at roughly 2 hours before I start, so 8.30 means getting up at 6.30, and when it long after midnight that does seem a bit early.

But I wasn't trying to elecit sympathy or anything, I just mentioned t as an explanation earlier, and since it got weird thanks to MiamiU I brought it up again as a little joke...didn't work well though... :(

I used to take the subway too. School buses don't make much sense inside cities...Almost everybody lives within walking range of the school anyways, and the rest don't only because they don't go to the nearest school.
I used to read the paper on the subway.

My username is the one I used back on the old forum... I can't remember why I chose it though.

BTW to get to College I have to get on a public bus at 7:30 which is also used to pick up a load of utterly evil kids going to school.
They have perfected an "exploding apple" trick... and one of the little bastards was sick all over the back window a few weeks back...
I hate them.

To get home I usually go on a public bus which goes to the nearest small town to where I live, and wait there for about half an hour for another bus which goes past where I live.

Living in the middle of nowhere has it's advantages, but transport is a major disadvantage.

Used to live there (and will be going back there soon), but I go to collage in Shropshire (ie: home to some of the worst petty corruption and blatent incompetence in the U.K) at the moment.
It's got some nice hills and really weird geology, but the public services are a joke...

BTW you've been to the City of Durham have you? Did you see the Cathedral?

Excellent, another Londoner! :)

Public transport here is absolutely atrocious in my opinion. Quite possibly the worst in the industrialised world. Over-priced too (£5.40 for a day travel ticket, sheesh). I have to commute from NE London to Chislehurst every morning and the incompetence of London Transport is simply driving me nuts. Honestly, don't get me started, I could rant for ages...

Btw, just a general question for you guys, while we're on the subject of user names: do you think I should change my name to the snappier "Michael Z", or should I stick with my current winning score in Scrabble?

I don't think anyone would get my user name, it's got such a long history to it.  Wow, ok I'll try to explain.

When my brothers and I were younger we referred to crap as fresh, so we used the word a lot for different meanings.  And when we got internet savy, me mostly, I needed a better identity to be known by.  So I was thinking, and I came up with LazyFresh, meaning a Lazy piece of crap.  :)  I've had the name forever, years and years.  So it's basically evolved into my worldwide online identity.  And so when I got to these forums, I was originally going to place the obvious LazyFresh, but I decided just on Mr. Fresh to be here for only a short time.

On other forums, you can change your viewed name as much as you want, and on this one you can as well.  But for the sake of people remembering who I am, I just kept it.  On forums where it's just friends, I change my name constantly.

So there's my history.....

So...since you've told us what "fresh" means......then you're saying.......your name is really Mr. Sh*t?

You should at least tell us your first name. Most of us know each other's first names.....like my name is DAN.

And even if we knew your first name...it's not like any of us are going to go to the biggest state by population in the Union...and look EVERYWHERE amongst the 33,871,648 residents of California for an ultra conservative Republican with your first name.

Well, maybe that wouldn't be so hard after all....especially since there probably aren't very many ultra conservative California Republicans..... ;)

Nym was my nickname in high school (short for my last name, Nyman).

90 has no particular significance, other than that it makes for nice alliteration with Nym. When I was originally picking my AIM name 7 years ago, I wanted Nym99 which would have been even snappier, but it was taken.

I don't really have a good answer.  I guess I just like the letter Q.  It looks kinda wierd and just seems mysterious.  It can never stand alone; always dependent on the U.  And most states don't use Q (or I or O) on their license plates.  By the way, I'm a license plate collector, so perhaps that explains my attention to such things.

A more interesting one would be "NoPlate". Someone used that in Calif and got a large amount of parking tickets because sometimes officers wrote "NoPlate" on the ticket. lol He fought them in court and they changed the way officers wrote it to NoTag or something like that and the same thing happened again. LOL What a mess.

As for my name "States Rights" its obvious. I stand for States Rights. The Federal Govt is out of control in its authority. The Southern States had the principles of the correct way this govt should be run in the CS Constitution. When I get a link I'll post it I promise.  One example is the line item veto.

(This post regarding the CSA does not mean I stand for or promote slavery. Slavery was not the leading cause of the war, this argument is worn out and has been disproven. The war was over High Tarriffs on the South and the continual abuse of Southern States by the North. I am not a racist so please do not try to paint me as one.)

how about you?

nifty.  I figured out the Miami University part, but not the number.  (you're really hoping jmfcst posts here, aren't you?)   Ever go into a restaurant where they're busy and they have to take your name and make you wait for a while?  Or order a pizza?  Or anything else?  They always want a name.  Years ago I started giving the name Angus McCloud, after a dear fellow postdoctoral research associate who passed away mysteriously in the cold Boston winter night a few years ago.  "Okay, sir, tonight we have about a a 20-minute wait at Madam Wang's House of Stir-Fried Pork & Slow Handjob, would you care to give us your name and have a seat?"   "Okay, that's Angus McCloud.  I'll just step outside and take a hit off this joint then by the time I get back my table will be ready?"   "Okay Angus, we'll call you when it's ready."

But liberty doesn't deliver you from evil (assuming such a thing exists), in fact, sometime liberty allows you to move toward it.  Liberty isn't deliverance.

Also, better Red than dead, I have to admit that it's a very clever name.  But I really think you're far from Red.  I think you're more pink than red.  Even your sig says you're a noam chomsky fan.

He was also one of the few viable presidential candidates not to resort to the standard red-white-and-blue logo.

I was also 12 back in 1992, but I wasn't aware of Paul Tsongas at the time. I vaguely remember Bill Clinton winning that election and my social democratic junior high school teacher telling the class that independent candidate Ross Perot was "close to a nazi", which led me to believe that he was ultra right-wing. He also said that the republican party in America was "so blue they're almost black" (red stands for left, blue for right in Sweden). Strange. That's the kind of indoctrination you have to endure if you grow up in a small community as I did where everyone are social democrats in their soul from the day they're born.

Thanks for the compliment. Tsongas was genuine. I guess what gave him the courage to stand up for what he believed in even when it was unpopular was his struggle with cancer. Seems like you need a big character-shaping event to happen in your life to be able to stay above partisan politics. John McCain is another example (five years as POW).

My name, Siege40, comes from my love of history and warfare, I first picked the name out based on medieval warfare of the Siege Engines. I picked the name cause I love forts, castles and bases, and the idea of cracking into them and winning the day. Now keep in mind I made this name up 5 or 6 years ago, I was only 10 or 11. It now really reflects my interest in WWII for Kessels and the urban warfare confucted in Europe and the aerial and naval siege of Britain. The 40? Siege18 (April 18=B-day) was taken on hotmail, so I had to chose, and 40 was the best one.

From Frank Muir's idea of the "thinking man's/woman's crumpet" which he used to describe someone whom smart people find sexy because they are intellectually stimulating, or have a "sexy mind." I once heard someone trying to remember the phrase and coming up with "thinking crumpet's... something," leading me to wonder what a "thinking crumpet's crumpet" would be, and I became rather fond of the concept.

My middle school nickname. I keep using it because it's simple and rarely taken. Also bagels are great.

Mine is a cryptic way (reverse pig Latin) of referring to the next great tennis legend (or so I prayerfully hope). I don't want to be too blatant about my support while rRoge is still playing.

Common male given name in reverse. Also happens to be the name I have. And "Leinad" sounds like a cool name on it's own.
