Title: 1824: Jackson v. Adams
Post by: Kaine for Senate '18 on March 28, 2008, 10:00:35 PM
What would happen if the election in 1824 was just between General Jackson and Secretary of State Adams, without Clay and Crawford?

With just Adams and Jackson, Clay will be supporting Adams, but a good deal of Crawford's popular support will flow to Jackson, but I think his Virginia backers such as Jefferson will support Adams instead.  I think Adams would have won, but Ohio and Virginia would have been close and either State going to Jackson would have swung the election to him.
