Title: How do I convert an image?
Post by: Frodo on April 17, 2008, 06:40:14 PM
I copied the 'Mark Warner for Senate' banner image from his campaign website to the 'My Pictures' file on my computer, and edited it.  My object was to then post it in the gallery section here so that when I do put it in my sig, that it won't suddenly disappear on me.

Well, the image happens to be a bitmap (bmp), which this site cannot accept unless I convert it to a 'jpg'.

So, how do I convert an image so that I could post it in the gallery?  Evidently I can't just change the last three letters of the image, which is what I tried to do.

I was wondering that exact same thing, actually.

I know how I'd do it.  I use IrfanView as my image viewer/converter, So I'd load it into IrfanView and then save it as a *.jpg.  It's freeware, so other than the time it takes to download it and install it, there's no cost, but you may already have a program that can do the same.

Open the image up in MS Paint, go File > Save As and in the dialog box, go under "Save as type" and select .jpg from the dropdown menu.
