Title: Does anyone else think Obama supporters are just as annoying as Paul supporters?
Post by: GOPFlyer10 on May 01, 2008, 10:22:03 PM
Just curious. The ones i know act as if Senator Obama has already been elected to eight years and is just annoyed by all these people playing around in his way.

I don't see Obama supporters trolling websites en masse to disproportionally alter polls and maps in favour of their candidate. I don't see them putting 80 bumper stickers on one car or sticking hundreds of campaign signs on single streets. I don't see them in mob form stalking news anchors who said unfavourable things about Obama. I don't even see them spamming forums, youtube comments, or calling in to radio shows.

See, the Obama supporters are, at their worst, unthinkingly enthusiastic. Paul supports are insane.

They do share some very similar characteristics.

Maybe almost as bad. The problem with Obama supporters is that some of them think he's entitled to 8, not 4 years in the White House and he hasn't even been elected yet. And then when he does win, many think he will rid the world of all its problems that he'll be reelected in a landslide.

I always find it funny how huffy people get about the opposing candidate's supporters finding him or her "entitled" to the White House.  It's the most universal complaint I see among zealous supporters.  I still have no idea what it means.

"The opponent's supporters think he's entitled to be inaugurated today.  Of course, my candidate is actually entitled, seeing that he is clearly the better choice.  But that's different!"

Candidate supporters are zealous (and annoying as a result, maybe) in pretty equal proportion to how much they think they are the campaign.  Let's face it.  Ron Paul supporters actually were the campaign.  The sign and Internet efforts were what distinguished Paul as a candidate.  Their delusions of grandeur about winning were ridiculous, but they were entirely right about their roles in the campaign.  Annoying, probably, but not really Paul's fault.

Obama has emulated Paul somewhat on that, through the faux-MySpace format of his web site and other things.  His supporters are enthusiastic and tend to be young.  He has a certain part of the base riled up.  Clinton's supporters tend to be more traditional Democrats, although certainly she has her fervents too.  McCain isn't particularly inspiring anyone but the excitable GOP die-hards and maybe a few moderate Republicans.

I don't think any of this reflects on the candidates, as much as their demographics.

And Republicans who take comfort in the quietness of McCain's supporters should realize that his failure to excite the base is a big danger to him come General time.

Paul supporters are far more annoying and delusion than we Obama supporters.

There's a lot more of us, so I'm sure the cumulative amount of annoyance must be greater than for the Paulites.

But Obama supporters who would vote for Paul over Clinton beat them both.

Well, at least Obama isn't supported by Stormfront, so no.

^^^^

It doesn't actually mean anything.

Can't we just all agree that Obama, Clinton and McCain all really want to be President, and that their supporters want them to be President too?

No... you're supposed to be melodramatic and must make sure that if anyone besides your preferred candidate is chosen they'll be Nostradamus' third anti-Christ.

Today at my job:

Ron Paulite:  "Do you have the new book by Ron Paul?  It just came out."

Me:  "No, we don't have that one.  I don't know that we'll be getting it."

Ron Paulite:  "REALLY!!?!?  I mean, it's like number 1 on Amazon and the New York Times!"

Me:  "REALLY!?!?!!?  Nope.  We won't be getting it."

Ron Paulite:  "That's weird."

Even Kucinich supporters are nowhere near as annoying as Paul supporters.

To speak of one is to speak of the other.

No. I'm a Paul supporter who has no plans to endorse Obama. I suppose you could classify me as annoying, however.

Ron Paul Supporters - put bumper stickers on highway coin machines.

Obama Supporters - call you a racist just for fun.

I'd rather deal with Ron Paul Supporters any day.

There are quite a few prominant Ron Paul supporters who are now Obama supporters, with Andrew Sullivan being the most obvious example. The most ironic thing is that having previously supported a candidate who was to the right of Pat Buchannan, and who thinks that the wrong side won the Civil War, they now claim that Obama's election would be 'groundbreaking' and that to oppose Obama would be racist.

Obama's candidacy is genuinely groudbreaking, and it is good to know that even people on the far right are willing to change but the Paulites to claim that they want a 'groundbreaking' candidacy and who make insinuations about McCain (or Clinton) supporters are being disingenuous to the point of hypocrisy given their previous views. I'd have a lot more respect for the Paulites, not that I had much respect for them in the first place, who now support Obama if they admitted that their support was just because they share his isolationist views on foreign policy.
