Title: What's the difference between Cherubim and Seraphim?
Post by: The Mikado on November 11, 2008, 06:20:47 PM
Any Catholics or other angel enthusiasts care to help me out here?

All I remember is that Seraphim are the highest order while Cherubim are the second highest. I used to know about these sorts of things though.

May I recommend Dr. C. Fred Dickason's book, Angels: Elect and Evil?

I believe it is a Moody Press publication.

Both are words in Hebrew. Cherubim are higher and more important then Seraphim, in the Jewish angelic hierarchy Cherubim is 5th rank (out of ten) and Seraphim only 9th.

So what I remembered I didn't even remember right. Perhaps I should brush up on my knowledge of angels. :P

It's different in the Christian angelic hierarchy.

Also, it appears that dunn got it backwards for the Jewish hierarchy.

Seraphim are the highest order of angels in most Christian theology.  They are the closest beings to God, being radiant with light and fire (symbols of God's presence).  Michael is a seraphim, and his name means "Who is like God?" (anytime you see "El" in a name, you know the name is somehow related to God, as God is "El")  Seraphim have a variety of roles they are "tasked" to, and I believe there are nine, in total:  Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Uriel... and I can't remember the others.

Contrary to the popular image, Cheribim are actually warriors and protectors, under Michael.  They aren't cute and cuddly.

Oh, Lucifer was also a Seraphim.

Is ther a heirarchy of demons, too?
All of these hierarchies seem like something out of Arianism.

Actually, they are deeply imbeded in early Jewish tradition, and in terms of Christian theory, much of it comes from very early Church writers who were not, as far as I know, Arians.

I'm sure some of them think the same about you.

Scratch that, many did think the same about you, and they followed Satan to Hell.

I often wonder whether we've got this religion thing wrong and are actually worshipping the wrong deity, Satan always seemed alot cooler.

I'm sorry.  Did any of us ask you to be a part of this conversation?  Did anyone here drag you into it and demand that you listen to our religious views in an attempt to try to convert the heathen?

No.

So why did you feel the need to join the conversation?

I'm free to post on any thread that I choose. I do not need your invitation.

Being able to do what you want doesn't mean that's you should.  I don't understand why you feel the need to come in here and mock us.  Does it make you feel better about yourself?

I call bs when I see it. I'm not mocking you personally, but if you start talking about angels the discourse gets silly.

Oh, and why is that?  Or, rather, why do you assume that?
