Title: George Allen Post by: Psychic Octopus on November 21, 2008, 07:38:54 PM Could George Allen mount a political comeback?
Is Macacagate insurmountable? Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Ronnie on November 21, 2008, 07:44:58 PM lol, no
It would be nice, though. :( Title: Re: George Allen Post by: SPC on November 21, 2008, 07:52:25 PM If he had ran for Virginia governor next year, then it would have been possible. But since he didn't, no.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Nixon in '80 on November 21, 2008, 07:55:57 PM Mark Warner is cooler.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: dmet41 on November 21, 2008, 08:43:05 PM I say chances are slim to none. I think running in 2009 would be too soon for him. If Obama has a bad first term I could see him trying to get his old senate seat back from Jim Webb in 2012, and that could set him up for 16' or 20'. But even that might be unrealistic. Plus, Mark Warner is cooler...
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Kaine for Senate '18 on November 21, 2008, 10:15:18 PM Mark Warner is cooler. Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Fmr. Pres. Duke on November 21, 2008, 10:23:10 PM Boy I wish. I loved Allen and hated to see him lose.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: paul718 on November 21, 2008, 10:24:01 PM I never got why he was so hyped to begin with. Was he wildly popular as Governor? Because I don't remember him doing anything major in the Senate, or his speeches being exeptional.

Title: Re: George Allen Post by: MK on November 22, 2008, 01:10:13 AM Boy I wish. I loved Allen and hated to see him lose. Jim Webb is a great senator. Title: Re: George Allen Post by: ○∙◄☻¥tπ[╪AV┼cVê└ on November 22, 2008, 01:13:33 AM Allen / Jindal

Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Psychic Octopus on November 22, 2008, 01:52:16 AM LOL Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Robespierre's Jaw on November 22, 2008, 05:59:09 AM Potentially if he held onto his Senate seat in 2006 after being a candidate for the Republican nomination in 2008, which was widely expected if he had defeated his Democratic opponent, former Secretary of the Navy Jim Webb. Considering he did not pass the above, the former Governor and Senator from Virginia will not make a political comeback in 2012 or 2016. End of story.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: WalterMitty on November 22, 2008, 09:45:11 AM LOL ^^^ Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Kaine for Senate '18 on November 22, 2008, 12:40:07 PM Potentially if he held onto his Senate seat in 2006 after being a candidate for the Republican nomination in 2008, which was widely expected if he had defeated his Democratic opponent, former Secretary of the Navy Jim Webb. Considering he did not pass the above, the former Governor and Senator from Virginia will not make a political comeback in 2012 or 2016. End of story. Only if he had destroyed Webb. If he had pulled out a narrow victory, after all the problems, he'd have had no shot at the nomination. Depends how it was spun... if it was spun as a huge comeback vs. Webb, David vs. Goliath, maybe. But... he was the incumbent, so it would literally require drugging the entire American electorate to pull off. Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Queen Mum Inks.LWC on November 29, 2008, 04:07:17 AM As much as I'd like to see him do it, no.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Southern Senator North Carolina Yankee on November 29, 2008, 01:47:23 PM I never got why he was so hyped to begin with. Was he wildly popular as Governor? Because I don't remember him doing anything major in the Senate, or his speeches being exeptional. He was considered the Conservative alternative to Rudy and McCain and thus the reason for all the hype. I know this might make a lot of Republicans here angry but I was jumping for joy when "Macaca" came to light. The reason is b/c since he was viewed as the conservative alternative to McCain and Rudy he was a roadblock to Mitt Romney and so I was happy to see him lose. He never really struck me as very bright and I knew is past would come back to haunt him in a Presidential bid and so I was glad the GOP never had to risk nominating him. Title: Re: George Allen Post by: DownWithTheLeft on November 29, 2008, 03:08:27 PM I think he could beat Webb in 2012, although I may be alone in this thinking
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Dr. Cynic on November 29, 2008, 04:30:27 PM Usually when you're an incumbent, and are defeated after a scandal, you don't come back.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Governor PiT on November 29, 2008, 06:49:20 PM Nah, he will probably accidental call Jindal Macaca in the debates.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Lief 🗽 on November 29, 2008, 08:07:38 PM I think he could beat Webb in 2012, although I may be alone in this thinking Title: Re: George Allen Post by: pbrower2a on May 15, 2009, 02:51:02 PM George Allen would be defeated for having had staffers who beat up a heckler in 2006. Such indicates a tolerance for political violence completely outside the American norm.
There are other ways with which to deal with a heckler -- all less violent and less (by corollary) un-American. Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Senator Robert A. Taft on May 15, 2009, 04:07:49 PM Allen stands no chance. The only way he could have mounted a comeback was to defeat either Mark Warner in 2008 (an utter impossibility), or to win the Governor's Mansion in 2009 (also now impossible). He will fade into obscurity, living on in the minds of only his most devoted fans.
Title: Re: George Allen Post by: Magic 8-Ball on May 15, 2009, 08:59:15 PM Allen's politically dead, and the Republicans should be happy. The guy made Dubya seem brainy.
