Given all the threads along the lines of "Post something blatantly false about the previous poster" (which is still being used in a positive manner), I thought it might be worthwhile to let other forum members know what we think about them.

Posts are well thought out, fair-minded and courteous.  I am always pleased to agree with him but when we don't, I feel I have learned something and gained a new appreciation for those who hold different views.

I just hope he's a White Sox fan and not a Cub fan.  Otherwise, he is dead to me.

There is much to admire about JS of course, but surprisingly enough coming from this pagan quarter, what I admire most about JS is that he actually lives the life of what is best about Christian theology, and it manifests itself on this forum each and every day. A lagniappe of course is that JS has a near encyclopedic knowledge of politics, which might be why he found it odd that I used a weekly time frame for my little sex frequency query post. :P

I'm a Cardinals fan primarily....but I'm sorry to disappoint you....I do prefer the Cubs to the Sox :)

I think that writing is an art form and that language should bring the same enjoyment as a painting or piece of beautiful music - and I think that you have the capability to be a master of your craft.

I see in you many aspects I would like to see in myself, and hope that I display - such as tolerance and compassion for others, a willingness to see the validity of a contrary opinion without feeling compelled to agree with it, and to respect those who disagree without questioning their motivation. Additionally, I believe we share similar tastes and if I ever were in the US, I would certainly hope to catch up with him in person (likewise if he were ever in Australia).

My experiences with Straha have been pretty good, compared to others, of course. He can be, a nice person to talk to, and knows a lot when it comes to history, especially alternative history. Not to mention, he does an excellent job of fending the forum from trolls as well.

If he lived in the states he would be te best kind of republican, a rockefeller one.

The original Happy Warrior, HHH, was a really great person who genuinely cared for others. I think this idea can be projected on this poster since often one's role models influence one's opinions.

As for Smid's good qualities, there are many. One relevant is that despite differences of opinion, Smid is always open to discussing issues openly, and actually engages rather than just 'yep, hmmn, yep' like so many people who consider themselves interested in politics.

Also, Pride was amazing! A really wonderful day, I couldn't stop smiling. I'm not 'proud' of my sexualityper se, but I was very proud of my communities - gay, melburnian, australian, family - on such a peaceful and enjoyable day. I clapped the cops, got a kiss from a drag queen, and cheered the people living with HIV/AIDS, and hung out with some good friends I haven't seen for far too long. Really a wonderful day :)

The first descriptor in his signature sumarises him pretty well - "independent thinker." It seems to me that he reaches his political positions by carefully thinking about the issue and determining the best course of action. He isn't an idealist, he isn't a realist - he sits comfortably between those two extremes, basing his opinions equally on ideology and a pragmatic realisation of what is possible.

He can think, he can elocute, and he does both in an examplary manner.

I'd like to humbly suggest we rename this thread the "Validation Mine".

Winston, to his credit, admits his (once) frequent ideological somersaults with good grace and humour, whereas many people who did the same would be defensive. It doesn't hurt that he's "landed" in a fairly decent position on the spectrum. :P

A very good writer, and lucid thinker, who is reasonably fair minded, and when he throws a punch, he does it with a velvet fist so that it does not hurt too much. All in all, a most impressive young man, and a fine addition to the forum.

Torie has mastered the skill of being a reactionary in such a way that your mainstream forum liberal either doesn't notice or doesn't mind. Also, unlike some other posters, I've never seen him go on about how his succes in life was all due to his hard work and how the poor are themselves responsible for their situation. All this suggests a certain level of intelligence.

Despite the unfortunate fact that his username is "belgiansocialist" and we, thus, have to kind of awkwardly refer to him as "Belgian", Belgian's one of my favourite posters - highly intelligent, droll, and incisive. He also speaks writes better English than most native speakers. ;)

I would consider myself a conservative, but my PM doesn't show that because the questions are too vague for me to agree or disagree on the positions without exception.  For example, I oppose legal recognition of gay marriage, but I support civil unions that provide equal benefits for homosexual couples.  Likewise, I am pro-life and oppose abortion except to save the life of the mother.  I could go on for a while, but these are just some examples.
