Title: Joe the Plumber on Gay Marriage
Post by: Platypus on May 05, 2009, 03:35:08 AM
Quote
[QUESTION]:  In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?

[JOE] At a state level, it’s up to them. I don’t want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it’s wrong. People don’t understand the dictionary—it’s called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It’s not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do—what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they’re people, and they’re going to do their thing.

Can't he just go away?

A mainstream, just-like-you, no-nonsense-talking kind of guy.  Did you know Obama is a socialist?

Keep telling it like it is, Joe!

The only time I ever hear his name anymore is in situations like this.  When was the last time somebody brought him up that agreed with him?  My guess is he'll go away when we stop talking about him.

I'd be good with his statement if you cut the strike-throught part out.

Inks, how does it affect you? If it doesn't affect you, why do you care either way? And do you actually view gay people as individual and separate types of people, or normal people with sexual quirks? And if we're separate individuals, don't we deserve the same rights that you would be able to get that we don't have with one another?

And do you really think we should defer to God on policy making?

To use Barry Goldwater's immortal words regarding Newt Gingrich: "Can't anybody shut that guy up?"

Has Joe not been co-opted to play a leading role in the National Council for a New America yet?

It boggles my mind anyone, even conservatives, would really care about this guy's thoughts still.

When are they going to start giving out "gay vaccinations", I don't want my family to catch it.

What will he say in his next interview? I'm guessing it'll be something like "race-mixin' is wrong" or something along those lines.

This guy is a neanderthal.

I don't mind the first two sentences, but I don't agree with them, either.

Like my changes?

How about like this?

Do Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin really have gay friends?

I believe they have interacted with gay people occasionally, likely a FOAF or someone they went to high school with. Friends, no, but they've exchanged a few words with one, so that counts.

That's assuming another Larry Craig isn't hiding in a closet (or airport bathroom stall) somewhere that they are both buddies with.

Ok.  Because I live in a fairly gay community by national standards [Berkeley], and I've had a very close bisexual friend in the past and have gay people that I chat with every other day etc., but I wouldn't claim I have a gay friend.

It just seems weird that Joe would really have "friends" he wouldn't let near his children

Yeah, it doesn't actually make sense but it's how I can rationalize that sequence of words coming out of his mouth and similarly for Palin. Sometimes, people aren't friends until you need them to be.

Do you guys really go up and ask people you know, "are you gay"? I, sincerely don't do that, I pretty much talk to anyone who is relatively friendly, if they are gay, straight, bi-sexual, tri-sexual, whatever, that's their business.

I think I know the dating life of my friends, since that's among the range of topics we chat about
