During the debates, Spade's vague answers and calls to "be patient" fail to inspire confidence. In spite of this, Spade leads in the polls until he makes an off-hand comment to a group of hecklers, calling them "f****ts". In the end, Spade wins the election by a decent margin, while losing 100% of the gay vote. Al returns to Wales, living with the indignity of losing nearly every precinct in West Virginia and Kentucky.
