There hasn't been any talk of Stabenow running for Governor. That's odd to come up all of a sudden. Of course, if she won, she could appoint her successor, and we all know how popular that is.

Cherry and Quinn both are mediocre candidates and could possible risk losing both governorships in IL and MI with their tax increases.  I think Debbie Stabenow and Lisa Madigan who both share their ancestory and stance on taxes to run and the republicans won't have taxes to run on.

Hoekstra will win. Michigan had to deal with one retarded Governor , Don't think they'll vote in more retards.

Hoekstra for Governor of Michigan!!! (The state I will live in to attend Uni of Mich)

Michigan is in such terrible economic shape that I don't see how the Dems can win there.  Also, if there are no noticeable gains in the state's economy by 2014 then whichever unlucky Republican gets elected will surely lose.

There are two rules of thought on that the Dems don't have to impose income tax increases, if they run on the Madigan plan impose fee increases on license plates, stickers and raise revenue by either lottery or casinos the Dems aren't as doomed as you might think in the Midwest.  They will be doomed if you go ahead like Quinn and impose an income tax increase.

Since Hoekstra is essentially an Engler clone, I don't see how this supports your argument.

Heh.
You're completely missing his point.
There is nothing wrong with what you typed. (except for capitalising "don't", but that's beside the point.)

People who use "retard" as a disparaging remark are insensitive clods.

The "blame Democrats for Michigan's bad economy" schtick didn't work in 2006 or 2008.  Voters here seem to understand pretty well that larger forces uncontrollable by the state government are responsible.

Maybe 2010 will be different.....of course a lot depends on whether the economy is improving by then or not. Be patient. :)

I think Michigan will eventually smarten up. Granholm is a bad governor. Hoekstra is the man MI needs!!

Hoekstra 2010!!!!

Hoekstra for President 2016!! (If Palin loses in 2012)

A bad governor in a pro-union state.   Michigan just like Pennsylvania and New Jersey are pro-unions and just like always Republicans start out strong but when the GOTV effort goes out, alongside the unions they Dems seem to better once that time comes

Hydrogen energy is in and the Republican are the big gas and oil party. I don't think republicans could shake that label.

It sure worked wonders in 2006 against Granholm. And it definitely seems to be working for 2010 again, Cherry has only just recently been endorsed by Reagan Democrat country. (http://www.peopleforcherry.com/news/entry/macomb-county-officials-endorse-cherry/)

Land would be the GOP's best candidate, though Cox would be formidable too. Hoekstra would certainly be the weakest of the major contenders; he'd get killed in metro Detroit.

Totally agree. I think one of the major factors that puts Land above Cox is name recognition--any time someone has to get their driver's license renewed, they walk into a building with her name on it.

Is that necessarily a positive connection?

Given Granholm's generally poor approval ratings, I think any name recognition will be good. I'm not an expert on voter psychology, so I suppose it's possible that, next year, many MI voters will think of that time they had to sit in the Secretary of State's office for an hour and a half.

I probably phrased my original post poorly. Since Land's name is everywhere throughout the state, I think she will have an easier go of things than will Cox. I might be wrong, though.

So sure about that?  Michigan has endured decades of retardation.  People are fleeing that state like the Titanic.
